Premature and Call of the Haunted

When you activate either Premature Burial or Call of the Haunted do you have to declare what card you are going to bring back from the graveyard before your opponent can chain something to destroy either Premature or Call of the Haunted, or does your opponent have to destroy it upon activation without knowing what monster is coming back to prevent the monster from coming to the field.

The reason for my question is this. I played Premature Burial. I asked if my opponent was going to chain to destroy it. He said that I had to declare what I was going to bring back from the graveyard before he would make his decision, then if he wanted to destroy the card, he would. I declared that I was bringing back Horus Level 6, and my opponent then decided to MST my Premature. I argued that because I had already declared Horus Level 6 that the Horus would come to the field and negate Premature (much like Jinzo negating Call of the Haunted), and thus he would stay on the field even if my opponent MSTed my Premature. My opponent argued that actually he was destroying the Premature before the Horus came to the field and thus it would never arrive. I disagreed and said that he had to decide to destroy the Premature upon activation before I made my decision.

I need a little clarification.

Thanks

The chain always resolves backwards, so....

Player A activates "Premature Burial" and targets Horus LV6.

Player B chains with MST to destroy Premature B.

Resolve

Player B's MST destroys Premature Burial.

Player A's Premature Burial is destroyed before resolution, so Horus LV6 is not Special Summoned from the Graveyard.

The same would happen if if was Call of the Haunted.

I think the issue here is the fact that 'most' players think the monster you choose, with either "Premature Burial" or "Call of the Haunted", is IMMEDIATELY placed onto the field when they choose it.

And as stated above, this is NOT the case. The monster chosen is NOT placed on the field until the resolution of those cards. So that's why masterwoo0's example works the way it does.

Just wanted to chime in!
