Rulings test

I give credit to tyloki who posted this test on another site for the couple of questions I'm posting. They certainly provoke thought.....

1. Dark Ruler Ha Des attacks a Reflect Bounder equipped with Heavy Mech Support Platform.

1.1 Does Reflect Bounder inflict the 2450?

1.2 Is Reflect Bounder destroyed? If yes, is it:

A: destroyed as a result of battle?
B: destroyed by its effect?

2. Player B has a face-down Cyber Jar.
Player A summons Tribe-Infecting Virus, and uses priority to use the effect. He declares Fairy (to kill his own Shining Angel).
Player B chains Desert Sunlight (to flip the face-down jar face-up)

Link 1: Tribe-Infecting Virus
Link 2: Desert Sunlight

Show how the chain would resolve, and tell what order the effects would happen

Well, like I said, the damage step chart from the essay isn't "public" yet since it expands what simply was in the rulebook.

That said too ... John, did you at least have what the correct answers are supposed to be?

john you cought my attention and im gonna take a shot at it.

bounder will deal the damage since its effect is before damage calculation.

his destroying effect is after calculation, at this point it is negated by Dark Ruler Ha Des, so it would be destroyed by battle. now at destroyed by battle mecha come in to save its day.

in the end, its Dark Ruler Staring right back at a Reflect Bounder that has some support.

--------------------

first, the chain goes as follow

TIV > Desert

Resolution Desert Sunlight flips up Cyber Jar IT cannot just jump in the current chain so it become link 1 of chain 2.

TIV's effect comes into effect and destroys the faries on the field.

all cards that should be sent to the graveyard that havent at this point land there.

so Desert Sunlight walks its behind to the graveyard.

Chain 2 Link 1 is Cyber Jar. opponent doesnt activate anything, so Cyber Jar resolves.

destryoing all monsters on the field, then both players pick up 5 cards.

they show to each other and start placing stuff how they should be placed.

As you said, it really depends on if you're going by the published ruling or the damage step chart.

The other one isn't nearly as difficult.

wait, isn't the monster still considered to be destroyed as a result of battle, because (I'm using other union monster texts, just to prove a point)

Freezing Beast
Union Monster (Aqua / WATER / 4 Stars / ATK 1500 / DEF 1000)
Once per turn, during your Main Phase, if you control this monster on the field, you can equip it to your "Burning Beast" as an Equip Card, OR unequip the Union equipment and Special Summon this card in face-up Attack Position. While equipped to a monster by this card's effect, each time the equipped monster inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent, destroy 1 face-down Spell or Trap Card on the field. (1 monster can only be equipped with 1 Union Monster at a time. If the equipped monster is destroyed as a result of battle, destroy this card instead.)

This would mean that any other Union monster would have to be destroyed as a result of battle, then be saved. Now look at Heavy Mech Support Platform:

Heavy Mech Support Platform
Union Monster (Machine / DARK / 3 Stars / ATK 500 / DEF 500)
Once per turn, during your Main Phase, if you control this monster on the field, you can equip it to a face-up Machine-Type monster on your side of the field as an Equip Spell Card, OR unequip the Union equipment and Special Summon this card in face-up Attack Position. When equipped to a monster by this card's effect, that monster's ATK/DEF is increased by 500 points. (1 monster can only be equipped with 1 Union Monster at a time. If the monster that this card is equipped to is destroyed, this card is destroyed instead.)

This also leads me to believe that Reflect Bounder would be "destroyed momentarily", but then Heavy Mech Support Platform steps in and rescues it. So, Dark Ruler Ha Des would indeed destroy Reflect Bounder, albeit momentarily, so he would negate Reflect Bounder's self-destruction effect.

Just my $1.92

If this makes any sense, then WOW, and also, I'm just tossing this out as my opinion.

But:
"¢ If a monster equipped with "Heavy Mech Support Platform" is targeted by "Ring of Destruction", then "Heavy Mech Support Platform" is destroyed instead of the equipped monster, and the damage inflicted to both players by "Ring of Destruction" is 0 (because the monster targeted by "Ring of Destruction" was not destroyed by it).

So even with DRHD inflicting enough damage to destroy Reflect Bounder, HMSP is destroyed instead and Bounder is not considered destroyed by DRHD in this case.

Agreeing with Novastar there since on the Judge list the question was raised having Jinzo with HMSP equipped to it and 2 Limiter Removals are played. What happens?

The 1st LR resolves, trying to destroy Jinzo, but HMSP saves it. But when the other resolves, Jinzo is lacking his protection and is destroyed too. So same thing here. HMSP can save 1 of the 2 instances, but the other will get the Bounder.

Nova, check my *LONG* post and see if you follow my reasoning (dangerous word there), if so, do you agree with me?

-chaosruler

I followed you reasoning, but disagree because the Union Monster is destroyed in lieu of the monster it was equipped to. And as stated... HMSP is very special.

1.1
Yes, inflicts 2450 points of damage.

1.2
B: Destroyed by it's own effect, Heavy Mech Support Platform can't save it twice

Link 2: Desert Sunlight

Show how the chain would resolve, and tell what order the effects would happen

Link1: Tribe-Infecting Virus [Step1]
Link2: Desert Sunlight [Step2]
Players do not respond
Resolve steps in reverse order
Step2: Desert Sunlight places all monsters currently on PlayerB's field to face-up Defense Position [Link2]
Step1: All face-up Fairy type are destroyed

Also, Cyber Jar was flipped face-up due to Desert Sunlight in the middle of the Chain, so it is placed on a new chain.

PlayerA: Cyber Jar
PlayerB: Divine Wrath is activated and chained to the activation of Cyber Jar
PlayerA: Solemn Judgment is activated chained to the activation of Divine Wrath
Players do not respond
Link1: Cyber Jar
Link2: Divine Wrath
Link3: Solemn Judgment
Resolve steps in reverse order
Step3: Solemn negates Divine Wrath
Step2: Divine Wrath effect is negated and the effect does not resolve
Step1: Cyber Jar destroys all monsters... and so on

Just thought I should add some finesse to it. :D

<proud smile> Shouldn't we be awarded bonus points for threads started that get over thirty responses in the first 4 hours their posted? <smirk>

Ohhhh.....AHHHhhhh.....they're ....so....pretty!
