Ok, how is this card ruled?? Here is the text:

Put the top card of your deck into your KO'd pile. Target defender you control gets -X ATK and +X DEF, where X is the cost of the card put into your KO'd pile this way.

What I am wondering, since this card does not say for the turn or whatnot, would this be a permenant change in stats for the targeted defender.

Did you get the text from www.ude.com/rules? The official text of this card is

Shape Change
Plot Twist, 1
Put the top card of your deck into your KO'd pile. Target defender you control gets -X ATK and +X DEF this attack, where X is the cost of the card put into your KO'd pile this way.

It was errata'ed at release because they accidently left off the duration.
 
Thanx! I was pretty sure it was only for a turn, but I didn't have a hard copy with me of errata's when this question was brought up. So, I made my ruling, just for the turn, pissed off a player, as usual, and told him I would get the correct answer by next weekend.

Knew I had read it somewhere.

Any time it is not spelled out clearly there is usually another indicator. In this case it was "target defender" Since the character is only a defender during the attack, as soon as that attack ends it is no longer a defender and thus the effect that targets the defender ends.

While the words "target defender" does imply that, by the rules it doesn't make it so. The Plot Twist only cares that the character is a defender when you announce it, and when it resolves. Even if it stops being a defender after the effect resolved, it will continue to get the modifier.
 
That was the arguement my players had over the card. I agreed with the later statement, of it not stating specifically how long. But, me, being stupid, hadn't printed off a new errata and trying to recall where I had read it wasn't good enough for my players. They went with my ruling, but next week I will be prepared and have a hard copy with me.
