Shinato, King of a Higher Plane DCR-EN016

Here is a ritual monster that does not get the attention that i think it deserves.... (in Fairy themed decks)

Light/Fairy/8/3300/3000- This card can only be ritual summoned by the Ritual Spell Card, Shinato's Ark. You must also offer monsters whose total level stars equal 8 or more as a tribute from the field or your hand. When a defense position monster on your opponent's side of the field is destroyed and sent to the graveyard by this card as a result of a battle, inflict damage to your opponent's LP equal to the original ATK of the destroyed monster. (DCR-EN016, 86327225)

Ah, Shinato. The only reason that he does not see play much is because he is an 8-star ritual, but what people do not realize is that rituals are not going to kill them by summoning them. 8-stars for a ritual can be the same as two tributes for an 8-star monster. (2 4-stars) You can also get rid of monsters in your hand, like in a Fairy deck, Guardian Angel Joan (and then a Sinister?). Also, since it is not a tribute summon, it cannot be targeted by Blast Held By a Tribute, and you can tribute Scapegoats for it (if you have them on the field a turn before hand at least).

Now i realize that Shinato works best in a Fairy themed deck, since he is the strongest Fairy in terms of Base ATK (mudora can have him beat ^.^), and also the strongest ritual monster in terms of ATK and DEF, if i am not mistaken. Once you get him out, your opponent will start quivering, i can almost assure you. (though, he, like most monsters, is not immune to being destroyed by card effects...)

His effect is pretty nice as well. 3300 ATK and 3000 DEF is not something to laugh at, and a fully powered Injection can BARELY break through that. BARELY. But also, your opponent is going to have to think twice when they summon their monsters, and they actually have to do a bit of math. Simply put, if their monster has an ATK of 1700 or more, they should summon it in attack mode, and if it is less than that, set it face down in defense to avoid losing horrendous amounts of damage. If i could tweak his effect a bit, I would change it to saying whenever any of your fairy types or something destroy a monster, etc, you know, like a Ha Des for fairies.

Also, Barrel Behind the Door and Trap of Board Eraser cannot be chained to his effect since you do not know the amount of damage that is going to be inflicted. (right?) Soon, this Ultra Rare will be a Super Rare in Dark Revalations, so it will be a bit easier to acquire. In truth, it best belongs in a Fairy themed deck, and is very useful for chipping away your opponent's LP for Sanctuary themed effects. (and again, 3300 ATK is a lot...) Be sure to use Manjus to help get him out, and in a Fairy Deck, its a double bonus... (Sanctuaries can prevent LP damage to your less-than-average Manjus... and Mudora will benefit from them)

Artwork is pretty nice as well, if i do say so myself.... d--^.^--b

I don't think people don't like to run Shinato because they are worried about the tributes. It's because he's dead weight in your hand until you get the Ark card as well, and in a tournament environment you have to build a special type of fairy deck around Shinato (like all Ritual Monsters) - and you can't take out a Guardian Joan and add Shinato and expect him to do well.

A deck with 2 x Shinato's, 2 x Ark cards, 3 x Manju Thousand hands is a must to get the full use of this card. 2 x Cestus of Dagla could also be pretty effective with Shinato.

Something else to watch out for with Ritual Monsters is;
1: Magic Jammers which destroy the Ark making Shinato once again dead weight in your hand, so many people run them
2: Compulsory Evacuation Devices which send him back to your hand as dead weight like above
3: Bottomless Trap Holes which remove him from play.

So, all in all... a Jinzo. Monster Reincarnation and Divine Wrath aren't a bad idea either!

Overall I think a Shinato based fairy deck can be a lot of fun, but a Zerato or Saturn based deck would probably do better in tournaments.

I remember when I ran a Shinato:

Me: Dude, my Shinato's stronger than your Black Luster Soldier! WHAT NOW PUNK?
Him: Uhh it's my turn and I'll choose to remove Shinato from play?
Me: Oh right.. crap.

If summoning him wasn't so hard and easy to negate by cards like Bottomless Trap Hole, Magic Jammer, he'd be seen more. *Sigh* Trade bait, n00bs like shiny gold-lettered cards with cool-ish effect and strong stats ^___^

If you really want to protect him you can. Divine Wrath, Royal Command, Interdimensional etc...
