a couple quick questions arose at our ygo night at the local card shoppe.

1. cursed seal of forbidden spell
does it also prevent the opponent from activating the spell sent as a cost?

2. resolved.

3. i recall reading this somewhere, but i might just be hallucinating.
in official english events, non-asian cards are legal (meaning, french, german, spanish cards are legal in english events)

i'd be quite grateful if someone would shed some light on these shallow ponderings.
Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell
Counter Trap

Discard 1 Spell Card from your hand to negate the activation and the effect of a Spell Card and destroy it. Your opponent cannot activate Spell Cards of the same name (including the Spell Card that is destroyed by this card's effect) during the rest of this Duel.

quick on the draw sir. quick indeed.

some tangents:
so if a player had a german card, but did not have the english version it would be an illegal deck?

if it was a german version of a popular card that was in one of every 4 decks, still an illegal deck?

Basically what the policy is stating is that it's the player's responsibility to make sure that he can prove what the official current card text is. I'm sure if its something like a Monarch, then you could talk to the Head Judge before hand and make sure he's agreeable with you not having a copy of the text. Even so, there could be problems down the the road if you encounter someone who actually doesn't know what card your playing or wants to make an issue out of it.

If on the other hand you just decided to run a foreign card and didn't bring a copy and your found out later in the tournament, then you would be subject to the judges' discretion. You may not be running an "illegal deck", but you are technically in violation of tournament policy if you didn't bring a copy of the card text, and the judges can act accordingly.

Anyway having a copy of the card text doesnt neccessarily mean having a copy of the card. If you have the card text printed off an official site then its just as admissable Id say but then again that is depending heavily on the head judge.

Please don't post questions and then edit them out once they are answered. This ends up using the boards selfishly as no one else can benefit from the Q/A. I came to this post and see question 2. resolved. And then I read answers and now I have no idea what was the question so I lost the opportunity to learn also.

you have a point. and i apologize.
in my own defense, i thought i had edited the post a couple minutes after i initially posted and didn't think anyone would be online at the moment to answer it so quickly.
shortly after i hit "post" a seasoned friend of mine came online, i IM'd him and got my answer. so i figured that rather than waste someone's time on an answered question, i'd remove it.

and actually skey, it was not about those promo cards specifically.
i was browsing that board too and came across it and combined with the discussion i had at my local ygo night, is how i arrived at my question.

i had been preparing for a regional and as i haven't met anyone to trade for any of the stronger more popular cards nor do i have $30 to drop for a single card on ebay, i was wondering about getting a foreign version for 10 - 20% of asking.

Well ya gotta be prepared and expect the unexpected. Yes some questions can go a short while with no answers and some are done in seconds at the weirdest times. Its just part of the magic that is the City of Gamers.
