Return of the Six Samurai
Group: Trap Card
Type: Trap
Special Summon 1 "Six Samurai" monster from your Graveyard. Destroy it at the end of this turn.

questions

1= since it dont specify level can i special sumon shien or grandmaster?
2= since it says "destroy" can i sacrifice anoter six samurai to mantain the one sumoned by this card?

The Six Samurai - Zanji
Attrib: Light
Type: Warrior/Effect
Level:4
Atk: 1800
Def: 1300
While you control another "Six Samurai" monster with a different name, destroy any monster this card attacks at the end of the Damage Step. If this card would be destroyed, you can destroy another "Six Samurai" monster you control instead.

questions

1- zanji can destroy stuff like "gk spy" or spirit reaper since the text only says "this card atacks"?

Legendary Ebon Steed
Group: Spell Card
Type: Spell
Icon:Equip
Equip only to a "Six Samurai" monster. It gains 200 ATK and DEF. If it would be destroyed, destroy this card instead.

question

this effct apllies in batlle and agaisnt effcts? in other words: can i activate the effct in the damage step?

Backs to the Wall
Group: Trap Card
Type: Trap
Pay Life Points so that you only have 100 left. Special Summon as many "Six Samurai" monsters from your Graveyard as possible. You cannot Special Summon more than 1 monster with the same name, or a monster that has the same name as a monster on the field.

question

this effct also applies to shien and grandmaster?

PLMK and thanks!

1 - You can Special Summon Grandmaster of the Six Samurai. You cannot Special Summon Great Shogun Shien because it is not a "Six Samurai" monster (i.e. a monster with "Six Samurai" in its card title).

2 - Yes. The effect of the 6 basic "Six Samurai" monsters work on any kind of destruction.

1 - As long as The Six Samurai - Zanji survives the battle, the monster it battled with is destroyed. This is NOT "destroyed by battle"; The Six Samurai - Zanji destroys the monster with its effect.

You still take Battle Damage from the attack (if you're attacking something bigger, like Gravekeeper's Spy), and Zanji can still be destroyed by battle (but you can redirect this destruction to another "Six Samurai" monster. However, if this leaves you with just 1 "Six Samurai" monster on the field, Zanji's effect will NOT activate).

Yes. This works for any kind of destruction.

See the answer to Return of the Six Samurai. It will work with Grandmaster of the Six Samurai, but it will NOT work with Great Shogun Shien.

Yes, after looking at cards like Getsu Fuhma and Hyper Hammerhead, I'll say I ruled incorrectly.

So I'll amend my response to the The Six Samurai - Zanji question and say that any card that battles with it is destroyed, period. It doesn't matter whether Zanji is destroyed or not. Of course, he still needs the different "Six Samurai" monster to be present to gain this effect in the first place.

Only the first part of the first sentence of my original response needs to be changed. Everything else I've said holds.

"¢ If "Getsu Fuhma" is destroyed by damage calculation, its effect still activates as long as it battled a monster and damage calculation was performed.
"¢ Even if "Hyper Hammerhead" was destroyed, its effect resolves.
"¢ If "Legendary Jujitsu Master" is destroyed, removed from play, or flipped face-down by the effect of the monster he battles with, "Legendary Jujitsu Master"'s effect is still applied and the monster is returned to the top of the Deck.

At this point, that's a dangerous assumption. With rulings on Ancient Gear Engineer I'm not sure there is any consistancy in the mechanics involved with cards that have effects that include the words, "...at the end of the damage step."

Why "at this point"? We've always had inconsistencies. They've all been explained as BKSS. I see more of a connection with Getsu Fuhma than with Ancient Gear Engineer, even though they're all worded pretty much the same.

I've asked the question on the forum, where it might even be answered (probably as BKSS, though).

I found this thread...so i might ask here.....

could someone please tell me if the effect of "The Six Samurai-Zanji" prevents the resolution of effects that require "..when this card is destroyed by battle..", like "Mystic Tomato" or "Nimble Momonga"..

Thnks in advance!!!!

typically, zanji would still destroy those by battle....unless he was " shrunk" for example... a defense position monster like gk spy or reaper would be killed by his effect ... the sticking point seems to be when he attacks a higher atk monster ( like jinzo or gets shrunk) and would be killed as a result, does he still get his effect to destroy a monster he attacked at the end of the dmg step...
its been ruled differently by different head judges...as yet, i dont think there is an official response yet... is there?...

obviously - if your judge rules he can- yahoo... if rules he cannot - try to get 3 on field so you can shunt destruction to another and you still have 2 samurai on field at end of dmg ( attacking zanji and another)

uppss...i think i posted the wrong info, you guy's...here's the thing...

I have on the field a "Grandmaster of th Six Samurai","The Six Samurai-Yaichi,"The Six Samurai-Kamon and "The Six Samurai-Zanji" (i love to write their full names!!) in ATK position and i'm attempting to attack a "Nimble Momonga" in DEF Position with "Tha Six Samurai-Zanji". my question (if i didn't understand the reply, forget me)is...does "Nimble Momonga is DESTROYED by the attack (i know it's obvious),OR by the effect of TSS-Z? (there...i've made it shorter!!)

in a diferent scenario, TSS-Z is attacking a "Jinzo" in ATK postion, with all the monsters in the first scenario...in this case, i see that TSS-Z is destroyed in battle, so i can replace him in sending him to the graveyard with TSS-Y, and "Jinzo" would be destroyed by his effect....but the thing i really want to know is the answer to the first scenario.

I'm making a Six Samurai deck, but i need to be well aware as to the can/can't with the effects of this respectfull bunch (specialy Zanji)

Thanks for taking the time to answer!!!

if zanji attacks
1- a monster in atk pos with a lower atk (like nimble momnga)
or
2- a def pos with a lower def than his atk (like dekoichi the battle enchanted locomotive)

then he will destroy them by battle

if zanji attacks
3- a def pos monster with higher def ( like gravekeeper's spy) or a monster not destroyed by battle(like spirit reaper)

4- an atk pos monster with a higher atk (like jinzo) or a monster not destroyed by battle (say - after opponent used waboku or gyroid)

then he will destroy them by his effect at the end of dmg step - provided conditions are met - see above.... :p

The issue with comparing "Zanji" with cards like "Getsu Fuhma" is they don't have the same text. Pretty much all of the cards that contain the word 'battle' work like "Getsu Fuhma". That is precedent with those cards. Currently, to my knowledge, there is only one other card that has the same text as "Zanji", and that's "Ancient Gear Engineer", and he's got a ruling about whether he needs to survive or not. That single ruling is precedent for those cards that simply state 'attack'.

Now, based solely off precedent rulings, which way to you think "Zanji" works?

I would absolutely love it if he didn't need to survive the attack.
This is one of the things we're going to try to get cleared up this weekend at Nats.
