Sorcerer of Dark Magic/Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8

Last day of the Post-ban "˜celebration' reviews. However, that doesn't mean I will stop reviewing. I have already Last Turn on the list (it has been reviewed on 13-12-2004. Time for a new review of it, I think).

But about now: total field control, with the help of Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8 and Sorcerer of Dark Magic. Two GREAT monsters, with the pain that they are both extremely difficult to get out. But when you have them out together"¦ You will rule.

Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8
SOD-EN008
Dragon / FIRE / Level 8 / 3000 ATK / 1800 DEF / Effect

This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by the effect of "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6". As long as this card remains face-up on your side of the field, you can negate the activation and effect of any Spell Cards and destroy them.

Rulings:
1) Note that "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8" has the word "except" in its Summoning conditions, which means that even if Special Summoned properly, you cannot revive it with "Monster Reborn" afterwards if it is destroyed.
2) The "you" in "on your side of the field" is the current controller's field, so as long as "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV 8" is face-up, it is always "face-up on your side of the field".
3) The ability of "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8" to negate Spell Cards is a multi-trigger effect that must be chained to the activation of the Spell Card. You can activate this effect multiple times in the same chain to negate the activation and effect of several Spell Cards that are activated in the same chain.
4) You can chain the effect of "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8" to the activation of a Continuous Spell Card, Field Spell Card, or Equip Spell Card and negate it. However, if the Continuous, Field, or Equip Spell Card is already active, you cannot later decide to try and negate its effect with "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8". You can only negate it when it is originally activated.
5) You can activate the effect of "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8" during the Damage Step.
6) [Re: Fairy Guardian] Spell Cards that are eligible for this card's effect include: Set Spell Cards, Equip Spell Cards, or Continuous Spell Cards destroyed by your opponent's card effects and Spell Cards negated and destroyed by an opponent's "Magic Jammer", "Solemn Judgment", "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8", etc. It also includes Spell Cards discarded from your hand by your opponent's card effect, like "Delinquent Duo" or "Confiscation" and Spell Cards sent from your Deck to Graveyard by your opponent's "Needle Worm", "Don Zaloog", "Vampire Lord", etc.

Sorcerer of Dark Magic
MOV-EN002
Spellcaster / DARK / Level 9 / 3200 ATK / 2800 DEF / Effect

This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by offering 2 Level 6 or higher Spellcaster-Type monsters on your side of the field as Tributes. As long as this card remains face-up on the field, you can negate the activation of Trap Cards and destroy them.

Rulings:
1) [Re: Double Snare] You can destroy "Jinzo", "Royal Decree", "Tyrant Dragon", "Sorcerer of Dark Magic", "Fiend Skull Dragon", and "The Dragon's Bead" with this card's effect.

As you already can see: Horus can negate ALL Spell cards that are activated (as long as he remains face-up on the field), while the Sorcerer of Dark Magic can negate Normal and Continuous Trap Cards that are activated, as long as he remains face-up on the field.

As I already said"¦ when you have both on your side of the field, you rule, the opponent must think then of another strategy (if he/she is that lucky. Most players won't have that ability anymore at that very moment).

About Horus: with being a LV monster, he has support of Level Up! and The Graveyard in the Fourth Dimension. Being "Horus" he has support of Horus' Servant. Being Dragon"¦ an actually quite small list???"¦ King Dragun, Lord of D. with The Flute of the Summoning Dragon. Being FIRE, he has support of Molten Destruction. Actually shorter then I thought.

About Sorcerer: for being a Spellcaster, he has support of Diffusion Wave-Motion, Ready for Intercepting and Magician's Circle (to get a card like Dark Magician Girl on the field).
For being DARK he has the support of Mystic Plasma Zone.

The pro's of Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8:
- Strong effect
- Strong ATK
- Can be reached for with Level Up!
- Can be returned to your hand by The Graveyard in the Fourth Dimension, when destroyed and sent to the Graveyard.

The con's of Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8:
- Can't be Special Summoned from the Graveyard, even when properly Special Summoned first
- Hard to get

The pro's of the Sorcerer of Dark Magic:
- Strong effect
- Strong ATK and DEF

The con's of the Sorcerer of Dark Magic:
- Hard to get on the field
- Can't be Special Summoned from the Graveyard, can't be returned to your hand from the Graveyard except by Monster Reincarnation, for another COSTLY procedure to get him on the field

Why they rule supreme together"¦

When they are both on your side of the field, you can choose which cards should be allowed to continue their way, and which don't. This means, in this case, that you can choose to allow ALL of your Spell and Trap Cards to activate and resolve, while (if you're smart, and choose right) the S/T of your opponent are negated when they try to activate.

Because of the fact that the most people rely on a strategy of combined power of Monsters working together with S/T-cards, your opponent (when he/she fits in this description) will have lost a half of the key to the victory. Moreover, the most people can't win anymore when that happens, because their powerbase is gone.

While you are happily playing with your S/T, and thanks to their help destroying the monsters of the opponent (and their HP/Deck), your opponent can't make a move. The only problem with those 2 guys is"¦ They are very difficult to combine in 1 Deck, however, I will try to.

Goodbye&farwell, till the next time.
Greetings, BenjaminMS

Two very important things to remember about these 2 powerhouses. 1) They are still vulnerable to other effect monsters like Exiled Force and Night Assailant as well as Chaos Sorcerer, etc. 2) Counter Traps can't be negated by Sorcerer of Dark Magic since he is only Spell Speed 2. Thus Divine Wrath is quite dangerous against the pair.
Chaos Command Magician and Chaos Sorcerer are both excellent choices when trying to get this pair out. Add a Metalsilver Armor and a pair of Royal Decree and you are nearly invulnerable.

...maybe "Magician´s Circle" can be useful on this deck =)...

Yup, it is (will add 2).

They are. Thusfor I'll add 1 Metalsilver Armor. However, while playtesting it on YVD, I found out that CCM and CS will make it harder to get SoDM out.
Why I putted in UFO Turtle... I've got no clue about it, lol.
Also, Metamorphosis doesn't work... Will throw him out.
Also, for a bit more safety: I'll add 2 Spirit Reapers to the mix.
