Soul Exchange question.

Does Soul Exchange require the owner of the card to have at least 1 monster on his/her side of the field to activate the said card?

I have someone here claiming it does, but i disagree...but he's pulling his ruling from another site, Obelisk Blue.

Clarifications would be helpful.

You, the player activating Soul Exchange, do not need any monsters on the field to activate it. Your opponent does, however.

Oki, I got the answer already, just needed to clarify how he saw otherwise...he's constantly trying to throw me rulings questions in the hopes i get one wrong, and he has yet to succeed.

Perhaps his confusion lies in the fact that when you tribute a monster (under normal circumstances), there needs to be something on your side of the field. In the case of Soul Exchange, the needed monster is on your opponent's side of the field instead.

Hang on, bud. We don't need a monster on our side of the field. I'll let us use the opponent's monster instead.

The only time you'd need a monster on your side of the field when you play Soul Exchange is if you Tribute Summon a two tribute or higher monster. Other than that, you just have to read Soul Exchange.
