Soul Exchange

Silly question, but in Soul Exchange all it says is that you can offer a monster on your opponents side of the field instead of your own, however there are things I don't get about this card. Like why must the monster be Face-up for a card like Metamorphsis.
Also why do you not have to have a monster on the field to use Sould Exchange?
Another Question is if you had a Face-up dark monster with 2200 atk power on the field like "Giant Orc" for example. Can you not play Soul Exchange for Deck Devastation Virus, to offer a f/u like Shining Angel on there field?

You could be right. I assumed that the cards having the proper name would satisfy in this instance but it would obviously come down to Konami's ruling.

It could of course be posted to the Judge's List, but I'm guessing the first response would be "What somebody is running 3-Hump Lacooda and playing against someone else who is also running it?" It doesn't seem like the type of thing that is going to come up in tournament soon. :)

Unless you mention the Exiled Force scenario. Then they at least have to address it after getting POd by that queston. ;)
I thought the Exiled Force question was a dead issue. Wasn't it already ruled that you cannot tribute your opponents monster for the effect of Exiled Force??

Soul Exchange and The Agent of Judgment - Saturn 2005-01-27 13:53:00 <William Belton>

Can Soul Exchange be used to substitute a card for the Tribute in Saturn's effect?

I ask this because the effect reads, "...by offering this card as a Tribute" and
not "...by offering a card as a Tribute". Does it matter?

Thanks,

Answer:

"Soul Exchange" cannot be used in this way.

Just like you cannot use it Tribute an opponent's monster instead of
your "Exiled Force."

The reason you cannot activate Soul Exchange on a Face-Down monster and use it for Metamorphosis is because you can't meta a Face-Down monster, since its monster level is not known.

Soul Exchange activates, you select your target (you target there Face-Down monster), then you try to activate your Metamorphosis, which cannot work, since the Level of the Face-Down Monster is unknown. (The reason the level is unknown, is because you cant flip there monster face-up since its still on there side of the field.)

If it was a Face-Up monster, then it would work.
Hope this helps.

Neil, yes you CAN Metamorphosis a face down monster...which is why people used to set Sinister Serpent and play meta ;) If you don't believe me, click on the Metamorphosis link in this post and read rule #3 ;)

"3. You can Tribute a face-down monster."

A face-down on your opponent's side of the field is an unknown. A face-down on your side of the field IS known. For the purposes of Metamorphosis the monster Level must be known. So if you've sol Exchanged a face-down you cannot use it as tribute for Metamorphosis.
