Spell Canceller vs. Area Limit - Level B

I'm wondering if a continuous spell or trap card is active on the field, does their effect get applied to a monster that is summoned first and then any effect the monster has would be activated (if possible). I am assuming the answer is yes, case in point being the ruling on "Skill Drain" vs. "Jinzo", that if "Skill Drain" is active on the field, that negates "Jinzo"'s ability to negate traps.

Specifically then, if you have "Level Limit - Area B" active on the field, and your opponent summones "Spell Canceller", then "Level Limit - Area B" should put "Spell Canceller" into defense position (and where he would have to stay for this turn). Afterwards "Spell Canceller" would negate "Level Limit - Area B"'s effect so the other monsters can be changed into attack position.

Is this correct?

Thanks again.

I'll agree with ensui on this one as well, we discussed it in the chat and I told you that was my answer at the time.

Continuous cards such as Level Limit are already activated and on the field before Spell Canceller's effect is on the field. With that in mind Spell would go to defense and not be able to be changed back that turn, but it would also then after negate it and any other monsters could be switched back to attack.

As you mentioned, the same scenerio is with Jinzo. If Skill Drain is active before Jinzo is summoned, Jinzo is negated by Skill Drain, if it's the other way around, then Jinzo negates Skill Drain, because Jinzo's effect was on the field first.

If only these cards would just learn to share and stop fighting each other, ;)

I don't think Level Limit can switch Canceller before Canceller negates it. The scenario with Jinzo and Skill Drain only works since Skill Drain was negating Jinzo, and Level Limit isn't negating Canceller. Another similar situation is Dragon Capture Jar and DNA Change VS Jinzo.

Great. In my last tournament, I ruled that Mobius would go to defense mode defore destroying the stumbling that was already active in the field. I'm glad I ruled that right.

Different scenario. Both of them are triggered effects. Both are triggered at the same time. They go on chain.

From the UDE FAQ ;)

If "Spell Canceller" is Summoned while "Level Limit - Area B" is active, "Level Limit - Area B" is negated but "Spell Canceller" will changed to Defense Position first.

Continuous effect Spells/Traps happen before Continuous Monster effects start if they're already active. :p
