In an earlier topic, I read that if Raigeki is played, it's effect still continues even if it is destroyed. Therefore, the only effective way is to negate the spell and destroy it. Could someone please explain this better?

scroll down to "Destroy" vs. "Negate" and you will have your answer. But short answer is Only continuing effect Spell/Trap cards (Countinuous, Field, Equip) are stopped by destroying them. Any others, need to be negated. So, if the card doesn't say "Negate", it doesn't stop cards like Raigeki, heavy Storm, etc.
