Spell Counters Question

Several cards associated with spell counters have the effect of allowing a player to add a spell counter to any "face-up card on the field that you can put a Spell Counter on."  What cards can you put a spell counter on?  Do they need to be cards like Royal Magical Library or Tower of Babel that specifically say you can put a spell counter on them?  Or can spell counters be placed on any Spellcaster type monster?

Nope, you had it right the first time. Any card that mentions spell counters (Royal Magical Library, Tower of Babel) are candidates for those type of cards.

:-(  I kind of figured that was the answer, but thought I would ask.  Too bad, though.  Being able to put them on any Spellcaster would sure open up some interesting deck possibilities.

Potentially, but I believe most of the cards that take spell counters only have effects they themselves could use. Putting a Spell Counter on a Dark Magician wouldn't help unless it had something to do with them 8^D

In most cases this is true, but this is Yu-Gi-Oh so there are always the exceptions, eh?

The card I'm thinking of specifically is Armor Exe. I just traded for three of them thinking I could use them in a Skill Drain deck. Doh. Well, anyway, I got the bright idea of building a Spell Counter deck, just so I can use these 3 cards (and just for the heck of it). It would have been nice to be able to use any Spellcaster to park counters on for Armor Exe to use.

Just to add this in here. If you place a spell counter on tower of babel by the effect of magica plant mandragola/apprentice magician/pitchblack power stone no damage is inflicted to either player

Great! I guess this also means if you get the 4th spell counter on Tower of Babel this way you could get an unlimited number of spell counters on it. Excellent. Looks like I'll be trying out this Spell Counter deck after all. :palmer:

Which 3 cards do you mean?

Those 3 Armor Exe I traded for to use in my Skill Drain deck.  Doh.

Armor Exe's cost effect is still not negated by Skill Drain though...is it just for the 2400 ATK then?

Skill Drain will allow Armor EXE to attack the round it is summoned. But it won't negate the maintenance cost. Thus you need something like Pitch-Black Power Stone to supply the spell counters to keep him on the field.

If you have "Skill Drain" and "Armor Exe" on your side of the field, "Skill Drain" would allow "Armor Exe" to attack on the same turn it it summoned, but you must still pay "Armor Exe's" maintenance cost during each of you and your opponent's standby phase, because "Skill Drain" does not negate that.

EDIT: Lol, look at this ruling I found for "Armor Exe":

1. (Pronounced "egg-zay".)

I always thought it was pronounced E-X-E

Yeah, I know that *now*.  I didn't know it when I had the idea to use them in a Skill Drain deck though.  That's what the "Doh" was for.

Kinda.  Mostly it's just because I've now got these 3 cards and I'm trying to find a way to put them to use.  That and the fact that I've never seen anyone try to play a spell counter deck.  'Course there probably is a reason for that . . .

Hmmm, a Skill Drain/Spell Counter combo deck is called for. Looks like Gather Your Mind may come out of the storage box . . .
