Spirit Ryu

On the card it says "Discard 1 Dragon type monster to increase the attack of this card by 1000 till the end phase." Does that mean i can only discard 1 dragon? Or can i discard as many as i have in my hand?

Apprently so, I just saw this ruling on the ARRJ and this is how its being ruled, however I did find this particular ruling strange:

If the opponent of "Spirit Ryu" chains to the effect of "Spirit Ryu", that player may not activate "Spirit Ryu's" effect any more during that Battle Phase.

Thats what it said, but are you talking about this one as being outdated:

If the opponent of "Spirit Ryu" chains to the effect of "Spirit Ryu", that player may not activate "Spirit Ryu's" effect any more during that Battle Phase.

It seemed kind of strange to me as well.

Yeah it's really strange so can somebody give a explenation/reason why it's so  :| ?

"Spirit Ryu's" effect is considered Speed 1, but may be activated multiple times in the same Battle Phase.

If the opponent of "Spirit Ryu" chains to the effect of "Spirit Ryu", that player may not activate "Spirit Ryu's" effect any more during that Battle Phase.

Although it is odd, it can be explained somewhat.

The easiest way to understand is that it is a Spell Speed 1, and cannot be chained to a Spell Speed 2 or technically anything for that matter. It is the only (to my knowledge) manually activated Spell Speed 1 that can be used in the Battle Phase, so it is special.

My guess also is that it is an Optional Trigger (based on attack response) and that is why you can keep activating it in a chain, similar to the Multi-Triggers like Strike Ninja that allow you to just keep activating it and chaining it together. Some might say Cost Effect but i see it better like this.

Example:

~ attack is declared

[TP Chain Link 1] Spirit Ryu (discard 1 Dragon-Type)
[TP Chain Link 2] Spirit Ryu (discard 1 Dragon-Type)
[TP Chain Link 3] Spirit Ryu (discard 1 Dragon-Type)
[TP Chain Link 4] Spirit Ryu (discard 1 Dragon-Type)
[OP Chain Link 5] Magic Cylinder

Now that a Spell Speed 2 Magic Cylinder is present, you cannot chain another activation of Spirit Ryu on top of that because it is a Spell Speed 1.

Hope that helps

Last thing I knew was that you can activate as many chains as you want in the battle step, but only one in the damage step, so you would be able to discard as many dragons as you want, even if your opponent chains to the effect

No at has Attack Response timing and can only be used during the first chain at the Battle Step. Also, you can have as many chains as you wish during the Damage Step.

It is not true, you can only have 1 chain in the damage step. This was posted on the "chains in damage step" forum in "Rules and regulations", there Envoy of Toilet posted one link where you can see that.

no, the lastest ruling is that you can have as many chains as you want in the Battle Step and the Damage Step in the Battle Phase.

The timing to activate certain cards however can only be done in the initial Battle Step declaration however (like "Spirit Ryu" in this case).

Yes, that ruling is outdated.
