are we still in a varied format? looking at the decklists for canadian nats - i'm thinking yes...t8 had d-hero/monarchs, regular monarchs, six samurai, ddt with no diamond dude( dh beatdown?) std machine/chimeratech, and gadgets(with no traps)..... i was dissappointed the cyberdark did not do as well as i had hoped...and i have not waded thru all the info - but i did think there would be a burn and a bazooper type deck doing well - maybe i havent gotten to them yet...
i'm looking foreward to following the us nats... (hopefully) we'll have some variety too - what do you think?
no baboon sightings here... anywhere else?

I can eat Corn Flakes if I want..I can eat Rice Puffs if I want..I can eat Muesli if I want..I can even mix Corn Flakes, Rice Puffs & Muesli if I get bored..
Too bad I like Cheerios, Cocoa Pops, Froot Loops & Frosties =(

Basically its fine having a limited amount of variety but in the long run its nowhere near enough. There may be more than one decktype there but can anyone actually say they didnt expect them to be there. Can anyone say they cant name half those decks without even looking at them? The answer is no.

There's certainly a little more variation among the top tourney decks these days but not really enough variation in the sense that many players still have the mindset of "Wow, those top decks are great so I should play them, too" instead of "Yes, those top decks are nice but here are some others that can be played."

well - its not 2 cybestiens and 6 chaos...but an improvement i think... that being said - are you taking your zombie hybrid to nats then? :p
still waiting for some hyped decks to do well.... i know looking at me trying to build a deck @ pre release - i commented "i'm not seeing it" with the crystal beasts...i still say it.. they go off maybe 3 of ten games...maybe the green baboon will "fix" them...hamon hasnt helped....much anyway...my cyberdark/ddv deck is much the same - it can be a terror.... but only about 60% of the time...lopsided hands just wreck you....big city is much the same...if skyscraper 2 isnt out pronto and kept there.....8 monster version or 20 dosent seem to matter....not reliable....
i will say - i do like the top 16 format for that very reason.. more decks are getting press....as for this format - most varied in recent memory? maybe? :p

Many of you will be suprise that in Central America you don't get to much original decks these days. Almost 90% of the decks are monarchs. Is sad to see that there are so many cards and strategies you only get to see one kind of deck and, in most cases, both decks are exactly the same. That sounds boring.

Agreed. Whilst some others have the mindset of "well, now we have 4-6 CC's instead of one, but why should I also run any of them, just because every "Thomas, Richard & Harold does?"
Yes, I have asked this question myself many times, to which the reply usually comes:
"because it wins & that's what its all about is it not?"
To which my usual boring cliche is:
"just because somebody else has seen that it does & it takes two to tango anyways"
I usually give such discussions up after about 5 minutes when I realise that any further elaborations would be a simple waste of my time.
There are 2 different mindsets of duelists. Not "noobs" & "pros" just 2 different mindsets. I think M:TG makes a reference to this somewhere, but I forgot about it.
1. Those who play for the competition &
2. Those who play for the challenge.
Suffice to say, BOTH should ALSO be playing for FUN!!!
However, to many now, on both sides, the concept of enjoyment no longer exists.

I'd like to see more "variety" too, but really, has it all just become more of a case of "beggars cannot be choosers" now? or maybe the complacency of "ah well, at least 4-6 CC's is better than one at least"
