k, i recently began playin and wAnted to know if a MST can destroy itself?

this would be the example

player a- activates mst
player b- does nothing
player a - chooses inital mst as the target since its already on the field, thus destroying itself.

is this how it works? sorry again for the stupid Questions.

Oops, that'll teach me to try answers Questions. :(

Is the Reasoning something along the lines of "you can't activate Dark Hole if there are no monsters" then?
Exactly. There must be a purpose or reason to activate a card. If on your turn, say you activate "Dark Hole" on your opponents Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6, of course it would have no affect, but it is still a legal activation.

If you activate Dark Hole on your opponents "Griggle", and he chains with Interdimensional Matter Transporter to remove it from play, it is still a legal activation.

If you activate Dark Hole on an empty field just to benefit from an effect that activates when Spell Cards are played, it is an Illegal Activation since there are no targets prior to activation of the effect. The resolution doesnt matter, but there must be a face-up or face-down monster on the field to activate Dark Hole.

There must be at least one face-up or face-down Spell or Trap Card on the field OTHER THAN MST in order to activate its effect.

just like duelzentity stated, i 've seen it done in all the yugioh games and duelist alike.
Many times it has been said, and it still applies today... "Do not use Game Boy, Playstation, or X-Box Games to provide rulings for the actual Card Game."

Most of the effects are just sensationalized for the benefit of the videogame and not true to the actual TCG.

Many times you will see people try to Trap Hole Jinzo, but it still doesnt make it right or correct.

ok masterwoo, another situation

k, lets say i have mst facedown, my opp DOES have m/t facedown, can i then activate mst and then destroy itself (i wouldnt do that, but hypothetically speaking )

MST cannot target itself regardless of if your opponent has 5 Spell and Traps set and a Field Card active or set (for a total of 6 eligible Spell/Trap Cards).

You must select any other eligible card, whether its a monster equipped to Relinquished, a Union Monster equipped to a eligible monster (like Z-Metal Tank to X-Head Cannon), Dark Necrofear equipped to Black Luster Soldier, or Rare Metalmorph equipped to a eligible monster.

I would just like to check one thing.

I always thought that you choose the target of MST when it is activated, not when it resolves? But all the posts here seem to imply that its target is chosen at the resolution of the effect?

So am I mistaken about that issue?
