Terrorking Archfiend vs Monster Gate

Can the effect of "Monster Gate" be used to summon a "Terrorking Archfiend" even when there are no other Archfiend monsters on the field, or would "Terrorking Archfiend" be sent to the Graveyard?

I have my own oppinion on this, but I can't find any official rullings to back it up. If somebody has a link or can give me a cut and paste of one I would apreciate it.

Yes, you can. You can Set or Special Summon a "Terrorking Archfiend" even if there are no Archfiend Monster Cards on your side of the field. You can find this ruling in the UDE FAQ or in the Netrep Card Registry.

That may be true, but Terrorking does have a "normal" summoning requirement.

Monster Gate allows you to special summon any monster that "can" be normal summoned.

Terrorking can "only" be normal summoned when there is another Archfiend monster on your field.

Thus the reason I am seeking something a little less subject to interpretation. I tend to agree that Monster Gate should be able to special summon Terrorking, but you know how it is convincing people who don't want your Terrorking to hit the field. Besides, rulings don't always follow logic and reason.

Even though there's a "restriction" of sorts, as you said yourself... "Terrorking Archfiend" CAN be normal summoned. You have the ability to Normal Summon that monster unlike "Rare Metal Dragon". There is nothing on the card that says it can never be Normal Summoned.

Hpmh. I forgot the text of the Normal Summon. I thought in a Marauding Captain style.

We have a problem: The Guardians. They can't get through Monster Gate is the Equip Spell is not in the field. Now I think that the same could happen to Terrorking Archfiend.

EDIT: Forget it. The Guardians have Special Summoning requierements. Terrorking Archfiend doesn't. I keep my position.

Terrorking Archfiend
Effect Monster (Fiend / DARK / 4 Stars / ATK 2000 / DEF 1500)

You cannot Normal Summon or Flip Summon this card unless you have an Archfiend Monster Card on your side of the field. The controller of this card pays 800 Life Points during each of his/her Standby Phases (this is not optional). When this card is specifically designated as a target of the effect of a card controlled by your opponent, when resolving the effect, roll a six-sided die. If the result is 2 or 5, negate the effect and destroy the opponent's card. Also negate the effect of an Effect Monster that is destroyed by this monster in battle.

Ok... as you can see there is a condition to "Normal Summoning" the card... but it still CAN ultimately be Normal Summoned. So as stated, you can use "Monster Gate" with it.

Examples of monsters that cannot be Special Summoned through the use of "Monster Gate":
Rare Metal Dragon (Cannot be Normal Summoned or Set)
Any Toon card, except "Toon Gemini Elf" ("Toon Gemini Elf" is the only Toon that is Normal Summoned. The rest are only Special Summoned).
Monsters with Special Summoning Restrictions (Like Spirit Monsters)

This list isn't exhaustive... but it just gives you an indication as to what will and won't work.
