Terrorking Archfiend's Cost

I was just wondering, usually for a LP cost, you must have enough LP to pay for the cost, otherwise the effect or card cannot be used/activated.

Because Terrorking Archfiend's (and indeed, various other Archfiend monsters) cost is compulsory, can you be reduced to 0 LP even if you have less than 800 LP?

I'm not too sure about that furryjenny

Last time I checked the general rule of "You can't pay yourself to death" applies. So if paying 800 would put you at 0 and make you lose, you can't do that and TerrorKing, or any other card for that matter, would be destroyed.

You cannot "voluntarily" pay yourself to death with cards like, Injection Fairy Lily, Last Turn, Imperial Order, Messenger of Peace, Wall of Revealing Light, Inspection, the Archfiends set, etc, etc.  If you cannot pay due to exact life points left versus cost, then the card is destroyed if mandatory payment is required for maintenance cost.

If you activate an effect that would cause you to lose by damage, then you lose.  But that's a different animal altogether.

(I didn't realize I could pay myself to death with "Last Turn" in the first place)

That said, for awhile in the US (and it may be like this still in Japan, I'm not sure) if you had exact life points (like 500 with Skull Archfiend of Lighting on the field) you had to pay it and you'd lose.

However, the current official ruling here (and your miledge may vary depending on what part of the world you are in) is that (as stated) you cannot pay yourself to death, even if you have the exact amount of Life Points left. If the payment would reduce you to 0 or less, the card is destroyed instead.

I wasn't entirely sure about the "paying yourself to death" thing, because I used to think that you could always pay a cost as long as you had enough, but now that I know for sure that you MUST have MORE than the cost, it helps, so thanks, ^_^
