The End of Anubis AST-000

The End of Anubis
Effect Monster (Fiend / DARK / 6 Stars / ATK 2500 / DEF 0)

As long as this card remains face-up on the field, all effects of Spell, Trap, and Monster Cards that designate a card(s) in the Graveyard or that activate in the Graveyard are negated.

Complimenting (and complimented by) "Necrovalley" for total Graveyard control, "The End of Anubis" is an underrated card that can cause headaches for your duel.

First off the slight bad. 6 Stars = 1 tribute. Eh, no real issue. DEF of 0. Well, only if he's in defense position and they have a trampler should you worry here.
Now the great. Fiend/Dark. Lots of support there. 2500 ATK. Well, that makes it tied for the strongest 1 Tribute in the game, beating the Jinzo line comfortably. Unrestricted too so you can run 3 if you want to. Lastly, you cannot target or activate anything the Graveyard. Too sweet.
The ugly. What exactly does "Activate in the Graveyard" mean? While this may appear a bit obvious (effects like "Sangan" that says when it is sent from the field to the Graveyard you can do something), his effect has brought up the concern of where activations occur.

"Exiled Force" is considered a Graveyard effect. "Peten the Dark clown" is not. (More on those to be covered later). Part of the confusion comes from when the costs are payed for activation and when exactly the card is considered "activated"... but again, more on that as the week progresses (plus you can do a search on "The End of Anubis" for some of the great debates in this regards).

The card itself is great though. While it can't quite shut down Chaos summons, his effect gives a great amount of control and stats will let him hang around for awhile. Underrated all around.

One very good gravekeeper card, if i say not the best one, since it is the one that completes the seal to the graveyard as mentioned before, he in fact has a "beware of the dog" sign by both graveyards...

Is it more accurate to say that "Exiled Force" would only be considered a Graveyard effect if it is "sent" to the Graveyard (and its effect activates and resolves there) when it is tributed?

To say that it is a Graveyard effect is somewhat misleading as it could cause a mindset that you only get the effect if it is sent to the Graveyard.

"Beware of deadly, decaying doggie!" LMAO, that's the perfect sign to put on Graveyards when EoA is on the field. Also, Masterwoo0 was right about the possible confusion about Exiled Force (KONAMI GA SOU ITERRUKARA!!!)

Broken Card IMO

Here is the official ruling form UpperDeck - and if this is not broken i do not know what is, get this out on the field with Kycoo and its a rap.

THE END OF ANUBIS

"The End of Anubis" WILL negate the effects of "Night Assailant" (its second effect), "Aswan Apparition", "Nubian Guard", "Sangan", "Witch of the Black Forest" (even if Tributed to Tribute Summon "The End of Anubis"), "Mystic Tomato"/"Giant Rat"/etc., "Sinister Serpent", "Magician of Faith", "Dark Magician of Chaos"' spell retrieval effect, "Vampire Lord"'s ability to return from the Graveyard, "Dark Necrofear"'s ability to return from the Graveyard, and activation of "Call of the Haunted" or "Premature Burial".

"The End of Anubis" WILL NOT negate the Special Summon of "Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End", "Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning", "Dark Necrofear", "Soul of Purity and Light", etc. (because these involve costs, not effects, and "The End of Anubis" cannot negate paying costs). "The End of Anubis" WILL NOT negate "Strike Ninja"'s effect because removing 2 DARK monsters from the Graveyard is a cost.

"The End of Anubis" WILL NOT negate the effect of "Fiend Comedian", "Fiber Jar", or "Big Burn".

You can chain "Call of the Haunted" to your opponent's effect that targets a card in the Graveyard or activates in the Graveyard to Special Summon "The End of Anubis" and negate that effect.

"The End of Anubis" negates the Special Summon effect of "Premature Burial" & "Call of the Haunted", but does not negate the effect that destroys the monster when "Premature Burial"/"Call of the Haunted" is destroyed.

While "The End of Anubis" is on the field, if you Special Summon "Gilasaurus", your opponent can't Special Summon.

If "The End of Anubis" is face-up on the field when a flipped "Spear Cretin" is sent to the Graveyard, then "Spear Cretin's" effect does not activate. But if "The End of Anubis" was merely on the field when "Spear Cretin" was flipped, but is NOT on the field when "Spear Cretin" is sent to the Graveyard, then "Spear Cretin's" effect DOES activate when sent to the Graveyard because "The End of Anubis" is no longer on the field to negate it.

When "Night Assailant" is discarded to activate the effect of "Tribe-Infecting Virus", and Fiend is named, the effect of "Night Assailant" is activated after "Tribe-Infecting Virus" resolves because "The End of Anubis" is no longer on the field.

You cannot send "Desrook Archfiend" to the Graveyard for its effect while "The End of Anubis" is on the field, because the effect of "Desrook Archfiend" targets the destroyed "Terrorking Archfiend" in the Graveyard.

The End of Anubis is a great answer to the infusion of Zombie/Chaos Hybrids as well as anything that splashes in Sacred Phoenix. Zombie Lord has to sit on the bench in the graveyard, and Sacred Phoenix must remain among its ashes never to be reborn. Your opponent won't be able to ram his tutor (except for Apprentice Magician that is) into you to get its effect.

Kycoo would be a good compliment to this card as it would keep your opponent from doing the one thing EoA cannot do, removing cards from the graveyard to special summon. Also, as someone else stated, this card would work great in a gravekeeper deck for total Graveyard control.

The biggest drawback to this card is its defense. An enemy controller and a trample monster can spell serious trouble unless you have a way to protect it when it is in defense mode. Another drawback is that his effect covers your graveyard too. So if you are running him, Premature Buriel and Call of the Haunted may become dead draws for you.

A deck with 2-3 copies of him, and 3 Kycoos could be frustrating for the newest tier 1 decks. Just make sure you have something to protect him and you should have fun frustating your opponent to no end.
