The New OCG Ban List

I'll second that. There is a good reson why the list should change every 4 months istead of every 6 that does over the US and europe. If you think 'bout it, the last 2-3 months are the most cookie-ish were we all start to say "man, I'm tired of seeing the same cards over and over".:haveaday_

I also agree with Jack of All Decks. It would be easier to update the ban list more frequently in the US and Europe. I also believe that Heavy Storm should have been banned alongside with its counterpart Dark Hole. As for the Mask of Darkness, being restricted I was suprised that it wasn't limited alongside with Magician of Faith earlier, I mean in the long run they are kind of the same ability but instead you get a trap.

When it comes to bans I mainly think of the card ability itself, and not the combos so many people refer to. By the card ability I would mean as long as the card has some sort consequence, downside, or lack of speed thereof. It does not suprise me that Cyber Jar was banned, which is why I did not bother buying it when so many of my fellow duelists encouraged me to get this card. Cyber Jar is basically a combined ability of 2 Pots, 1 Jar of Greed, Dark Hole, and Special Summons to come along with it. Its weakness is that it is way too random.

In my opinion, once a card is put on the ban list it should remain there. This is why I think Sangan should have stayed on the list, after all it is Witch's counterpart, but for a weaker monster instead. I am suprised that Royal Decree, Snatch Steal, United We Stand, Mage Power, Call of the Haunted, and Magic Cylinder weren't banned.

I am also suprised that Creature Swap and Enemy Controller were not restricted. Deck Destruction Virus of Magic (Deck Devastation Virus) should have stayed restricted. Just sheer fact that a player can take out cards (1500 or less monsters) from your hand that you draw for the remaining two turns, could put this card in the category of cards like Confiscation, The Forceful Sentry, and Delinquent Duo.

I can't fathom the attitude of some duelists, sometimes. How could one set his deck up to play by the OCG ban before we even get our own ban, and then refuse to play by any thing else? Our ban doesn't even become official untill a time after its released. It's different if your trying to get leg up on how the new meta might feel. But refusing to play by anything else? It seems so many players just halfway read what they see, and base a doctrine on it.

As a side note, but somewhat related, has anyone noticed how lazy a lot of young duelists have gotten? The don't read card text. They don't want to read the card text. At this last regional, for example, I handed over Balloon Lizard to several players since they were unfamiliar with its effect, and a third of them handed the card back to me saying "so what does it do?" I can understand if your just blind and can't read the tiny text, but if your not going to become any kind of great duelist if you totaly rely on others to explain things to you. If you rely soley on what you read in a one sentance post in a forum, or on the guy who goes to your school who is a "great duelist" or because "he's a judge and he said...", then your never going to grasp the subtlties of this game and your going to get shiestered (tricked) more times then you'll ever realize.

I agree with the majority of your points, especially with young duelists not reading the card text. Unfortunately, most young duelists (little kids and in my opinion 70% of Yugioh duelists that I've known) either ignore card descriptions or certain cards all together because, they would misinterpet the cards potential. As for myself, I am always talking to some of my young cousins or fellow college duelists about the same thing, and help in raising their awareness of Yugioh.

I like many duelist still remember that this list only reflects upon the OCG in Japan, not the TCG in the States. For all we know this list could even be FALSE, since I have no seen no update for the ban list on the Konami of Japan website.

As for myself, I take a preemptive strike for cards that may be considered highly dangerous after the American and Japan bans, so that people don't complain about that card next, and then go on with believe of banning a card just because, it may be in most tourney decks, or they lose to that card. The posts for this particular thread are at best speculation as well as OPINIONS, and should not be considered or even thought of as an attempt to steal an idea/truth and make it there own.

I don't plan on making any changes until we here from Kevin Tewart himself. Hopefully, this should be the COMMON SENSE lesson learned from this thread.

Here in my location, when OCG list is announced, people imediately change theirs decks and say that they are already testing. This **** me off so bad (specially when BLS was playing his last days)...
Well, about the ban list, I hope Graceful will not return for us. This would make Dark World monsters way too good and maybe cookie cutter choice (well, it's my opinion) and make "luck draws" too important (draw 3 and 2 special summons is annoying).
The rest of the list is balanced. Time Seal is a card extremely powerfull... it's a sure 1 for 1 trade but with good potencial to be 2 for 1 (chained) and I agree with it's ban.

i think its a smart idea to playtest with the banned cards taken out, if you suspect one thing another is going to be banned, gracefull i dont mind so much, pot i wouldnt like to see back, graveful can help other decks becuase of its discrad, like e-hero's and the new graveyard monsters from soi(not a bad, if somewhat dumb, reason for them to bring both, graceful and Painful Choice back.

Can't have more ban list changes per year because of the fact that regionals and other events would have to be held much more often. This puts stress on the companies that hold these events and renting out a room at a convention complex every 2 months or so isn't necessarally wise. Costs start to mount and players spread out from the various different regionals which drives sale profits for those companies down. Two ban list changes a year is fine with me.

Banning those cards doesn't help the game. Some cards simply are needed in the game. Events at certain places of the country will have long winded events where the players and event staff get annoyed at how slow gameplay is even with players rushing to get their matches over.

If you restrict players too much, it slows down gameplay and makes it so you can't even complete a single duel in 40 minutes for a sanctioned tournament.

The thing you guys have to remember is just because one form of the card such as Jinzo is limited to one per deck doesn't mean its counterpart Spell Canceller should be limited to one per deck as well. Both have pretty effective effects after all.

Rotating cards on and off the lists is a lot better than making the change permanent. Although this list is far worse than our current one. -_-

I don't plan on making any changes until we here from Kevin Tewart himself. Hopefully, this should be the COMMON SENSE lesson learned from this thread.
Don't waste your time. If you aren't going to actually post the "why" factor behind your changes then don't post the list. This is what pissed a lot of us off last time you did it. Not to mention when you did explain the "why" factor, they weren't very good reasons.

The list changes should actually be an attempt to balance the game out, not necessarally allow weaker decks to gain strength. That isn't going to solve much in the long run anyway. The more restrictions you place on players the slower gameplay will be and the longer tournaments will be. People aren't going to be very happy with this.

I knew Mirror Force was going to be coming back. I even was looking forward to Tribe-Infecting Virus making a return since it isn't even close to being broken. Trust me, the effect isn't broken. It was only considered broken because Sinister Serpent was used with it, which made it broken through a "combo".

Dark Hole wasn't really needed as it helped balance the game IMO more than it does when it's banned. Didn't really understand that one. Obviously there were some other things that I would have done to the list, but I'm sure there's people that would disagree.

This new format isn't going to be very fun after a while. I predicted to my friends that Cyber Stein and Ben Kei OTK will flurish with the new ban list. Looks like I'm pretty right with my assumtion.

Their banlist activates in September - March. ours is April - October, If i count right its the same 6 month period.
It is, and 6 months between list changes allows players to explore all possiblities with the list in making decks. Whether the players actually do that is up to them.

I thought I did post the so called "why" reasons. I repeatedly stated the word "OPINIONS" in my post. You are entitled to your own opinions, as well as I am. Never have I stated anything in any of previous or present threads/posts as a FACT OR DOCTRINE of anykind. I am ignorant of how I may agiated anyone, but you PM me if you desire, to discuss this matter in further detail.

I also agree that Mirror Force is should be unbanned. I guess it is better to restrict every 6 months, due to the reasons you stated. In case anyone wanted to know, the new official OCG ban list is now on Konami of Japan's website.

A message doesn't need to be actually written for people to get the idea. You stated you were surprised that Royal Decree, Snatch Steal, United We Stand, Mage Power, Call of the Haunted, and Magic Cylinder weren't banned. They have no reason to be banned in the first place. They help speed up gameplay and that's what this game needs. Dark Hole sped up gameplay, which is why I never really understood why they re-banned it without semi-limiting Torrential Tribute.

Some of the changes they made are a little out of the norm to me. Changes to the lists shouldn't be based solely on opinion. Those changes don't improve the meta at all. You disreguard way too much of what is actually being used and what potentially could be over used with those changes.

You did post an Advanced Format list in a previous thread with no "why" factor behind them until several posts (like six or eight) later. Your list gets dominated by facts of how the meta is and how it most likely will shape (which I believe have come true from the time those posts were actually posted). Sure they're opinions, but when you claim you're suprised that something like Magic Cylinder or Call of the Haunted wasn't banned surprises you - something is indeed wrong with that situation and brings me to conclude that whatever list you create is flawed.

These aren't personal attacks against you. Merely what impression I get from the message you send me with your opinions of what you think should have changed to the lists.

The game doesnt need to have more speed in play (as far as Game Length). Its just the opposite. I dont think there are many people out there who enjoy puting their Deck back in the Deck Box after 2 turns, other than the eventual winner.

Most people enjoy a long battle even if they lose because they had a "chance". In a game that only goes 2 turns, it really sounds one sided, and not much fun for both unless the kill was dramatic in fashion, and worthy of respect from the losing player because of the skill involved (but they still arent happy they lost so fast!!!).

Other than Ben Kei, Cyber Stein, and Dark World OTK, what deck can win in two turns? I honestly would love to know.

Any other decks? Stuff that's used commonly? None of these decks really are. So the argument of wanting slower game play isn't really that strong. I'm not asking to unban stuff like Ring of Destruction or Raigeki. There are options that UDE and Konami haven't explored with already existing cards. Reflect Bounder being semi-limited is an EXCELLENT example of this. Heck, I could even see Magic Cylinder semi-limited too. Maybe it will get some more use for once. However, that's just an option to improve the lists.

I think Konami is just going about it half-assed like they did in making this game. Doesn't mean this game isn't fun to some degree. @_@

This thread is getting heated (and I'll add I'm surprised that people are actually getting heated over such a topic) and I see it as a good idea to lock the thread before further things are written in poor taste or with ill intent.

I'll thank you all to watch your tone and manners.
