Interesting article about losing, and what one can do about it, on Metagame today.

It gives 3 different things that you can do when you lose:
1) You can whine and moan about how how “lucky” your opponent was.
2) You can feel disappointment, learn from your mistakes, and keep trudging on.
3) You can quit.

I think that it is missing a fourth option- sometimes you come across a play or a combo that is just so inspiring that you have to smile or even laugh! Just by being witness to something clever and neat, it brings joy.
It might not happen often, and many players are so straight faced when they play they might not appreciate it, but it does happen.
One tournement, against by bunny/panda/ojama deck, I locked one player and there was nothing he could do except take inaba white rabbit. Every turn. And his smile kept getting bigger and bigger...
Likewise, once I played against a BEWD deck and the opponent not only managed to get BESD out, but win with it. And I had to shake his hand aftewards, I was so happy for him.

It's called a game for a reason- it's a game and meant for you to have fun. Too many players lose sight of that and take things too seriously. Lighten up and enjoy the moments. Too many other things in life that you're forced to take seriously.

I've found the best way to react to a loss is with a smile. If you had fun who cares if you won or lost.

When you lose to someone who only cares about winning and then gloats about it smiling and thanking them is a great way to throw them off for the next person they face.

I haven't met too many people who handle loss badly. Most of the time the "whining" they do is in good fun and meant in jest only. (Who doesn't like a little whine with their cheese?) I seem to have a bigger problem with the people who win badly. I've run into quite a few sore winners in my time playing this game. Seems as if when a person wins, they don't quite get the win doesn't make you more knowledgeable then your opponent, and thereby require a dueling lessons about how you shouldn't have played that combo/move/deck.

But then again, I probably haven't won enough games to really gauge it properly. :soso:

i have meet some people who cant handle a loss one keept saying i cheated when 3 people where looking and knew i didn't, the 2nd time we vsed was last friend at a tourament he said i was luckly i wont lie i was!

i had 100lp he 2300lp bacily he had snipe hunter and 3 cards in his hand if he kill ine of my mosters it was game and all 3 time it landed on 1! i then raiza for game

but he got so mad he threw the dice across the room hard.

but i got to the final and ended up duel some-one who i have not duel and we've been wanting to duel each other for long, he won it but i felt happy for him but none the less in one of the booster i got for a prize i got a scr rare magma neo ist ed :D

I guess i'm lucky so far. THe local weekly I go to most of the players are good about wins and losses, the only time I've ever had one of them get angry was when they were about to win and I top decked Overload fusion and pulled out Chimeratech with over 20k Attack and won.

in that situation I can understand him being a little annoyed.
