The patrician of darkness

Just wondering if an opponent's patrician of darkness can redirect attacks to your own monsters.

Example: I have two blue eyes white dragons on the field. I attack with one. My opponent declares to redirect at my other blue eyes. Is that legal? Or would he/she have to have another monster on their side of the field to redirect to...if he/she does not, would I make the patrician a smear under my dragon?

From the AARJ on Patrician of Darkness:
"¢ If a monster is able to inherently attack and attacks a field with "Patrician of Darkness" on it, "Patrician of Darkness" may redirect the attack to any monster on that field or to the controller of "Patrician of Darkness"'s Life Points. [ARRJ]

the attack become a direct attack, so long as the attacking monster is legally
able to attack directly.


For example, I wouldn't be able to redirect the attack of a monster Special
Summoned from the effect of "Magicial Scientist" into a direct attack against my
Life Points, because that monster is not legally able to attack me directly.

But if my opponent's "Gemini Elf" attacks, I could use "Patrician of Darkness'"
effect to redirect the attack at me directly.

I need to amend something here. Had a communication burp on this one:


You can only alter the attack into a direct attack if the attacking monster would have been able to legally attack directly anyways.
(from its own effect, the effect of an Equip Spell Card, etc.)

For example, if my opponent's "Toon Summoned Skull" was to attack my "Double Coston," I could use "Patrician of Darkness'" effect to redirect that attack to me instead. This is because "Toon Summoned Skull" has an effect that would allow it to legally attack me directly on its own.

"Gemini Elf" doesn't have that, so the ladies will need to be sent up against a monster.

the patrician of darkness isnt that great anyways sure it can redirect attacks, but its only very usefull when you have higher hitters.

considering yea its 2000 atk 1 tribute. that means that in any situation it can mess you up.

why not just use dreamsprite?

Dreamsprite only triggers when it itself is attacked. Patrician of Darkness is more of a controlling element in that whenever your opponent attacks, you may redirect it. And it isn't only to heavy hitters. Many Zombie decks don't mind if their Spirit Reaper keeps getting hit over and over again.

so patrician of darkness can choose to direct the attack to another monster on the same side as patrician of darkness.  What if it directs the attack to another patrician of darkness, could you direct back to the first and so on to make an infinent loop?

See, that's the problem with all of the UDE rulings on Patrician.

PATRICIAN DOES NOT REDIRECT THE ATTACKS!

Normal steps in an attack declaration:
1a. Enter battle step
1b. Choose the attacking monster.
1c. Choose the monster to attack.

If Patrician is on the opponent's field:
1a. Enter battle step
1b. Choose the attacking monster.
1c. Your opponent chooses the monster you attack.

The opponent of Patrician of Darkness NEVER declares an attack target.
