The Six Samurai - Zanji

If "The Six Samurai - Zanji" attacks a Face-Up Attack Position "Blue-Eyes White Dragon", while another Six Samurai Monster is Face-Up on the field, another Six Samurai isn't destroyed by Zanji's effect, no cards are chained, and Zanji is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard as a result of battle, will Zanji's effect activate?

As long as there is another Six Samurai monster on the field, Zanji's effect of destroying the opponent's monster after damage calculation will still resolve. You also have the option of destroying the other Six Samurai monster instead of Zanji and destroying Blue Eyes at the same time.

If I destroy the other instead, then only Zanji is Face-Up when his effect would activate.

Yes, only Zanji would be left on the field. Blue Eyes and the other Six Samurai would be the only two monsters destroyed. Both of the effects of Zanji activate during the damage calculation phase of the battle. You have the ability to use both the effects of destroying the opponent's monster after damage calculation AND destroying another Six Samurai monster instead of Zanji.

Might want to re-read Zanji's effect again. He doesnt activate after Damage Calculation. His effect kicks in at the end of the Damage Step, just like Ryu Kokki's.

So, after Damage Calculation, if Zanji is determined to be destroyed by Battle, he would have to use his effect (and it is not chainable, so it activates and resolves immediately) to destroy a Six Samurai Monster to remain face-up on the field at the end of the Damage Step, and if you only have one other Six Samurai, that means he would not have his effect when the Damage Step ends, as he would be by himself.

Right now, the answer is up to the Head Judge of the event. I had my Judges at the Houston Shonen Jump rule that "Zanji" must survive the attack in order to have his effect work. That means at a minimum, if you want to get his effect, then you'd have to have 3 Six Samurai on the field if you were to decide to destroy one in order to keep "Zanji" on the field.

That's exactly how I've been playing, skey23. However, on WC07 there's a situation in a duel puzzle where Zanji does battle, and since there's another samurai, he's destroyed by battle and his effect activates while he's in the grave.
