Total Defense Shogun gets pwned.....or does he?

This situation came up today at tournament the ruling I gave was not agreed with. It was asked that I post it here to get a consensus among L2 and L3 judges on this site.

A Total Defense Shogun (ATK 1550) declares an attack against a Green Gadget (ATK 1400). During Damage calculation Shrink is activated on Total Defense Shogun (now ATK 775). Shogun loses the battle (775 < 1400) and the player controlling Shogun loses 625 life points.

The disagreement came here. Should Total Defense Shogun be destroyed by the battle? I said it should, because it did lose a battle and that is basic gameplay mechanics. Others said it shouldn't, because it is in defense mode and the Defense is still greater than the ATK of the attacked monster (???). That rationalization really didn't make much sense to me, but I thought I could post here and get more opinions.

Takers?

"¢ While "Total Defense Shogun" is in Defense Position, he attacks using his ATK but defends with his DEF if he is attacked. If he attacks a monster with higher ATK, but ATK lower than "Total Defense Shogun"'s DEF, "Total Defense Shogun" is still destroyed because the battle is ATK vs. ATK.
You were right, others were wrong, Total Defense Shogun is destroyed by battle.

I had said a bunch of stuff, but the ruling says it better (and is more believable).

That's one of those things you really have to wonder why anyone would question after a cursory examination of the rulings. Even a Level 3 couldn't put it more officially.

We didn't have access to the internet, or RONIN, or the FAQ for that mattter. Had I been able to look up the ruling, there would have been no argument. But thank you for the reference to the ruling, Maruno. Much appreciated.

Yes, Sakuretsu Armor only destroys an attacking monster. It makes no reference to it's Battle Position. Unlike Mirror Force and Widespread Ruin, which specificlly state in thier text to destroy Attack Position Monsters.
