Trap Jammer IOC-110

Trap Jammer
[Counter Trap]
You can only activate this card when your opponent activates a Trap Card during the Battle Phase. Negate the activation of the Trap Card and destroy it.

Probably one of the coolest Trap Cards, with no involvement of a cost. The effect is free, and it's a Spell Speed 3 Counter Trap card. However it can only be activated in the Battle Phase, which pretty much isn't a draw back at all.

Possible cards during Battle Phase:
Call of the Haunted
Mirror Force
Sakuretsu Armor
Compulsory Evacuation Device
Solemn Judgment
Wall of Revealing Light
Windstorm of Etaqua
.... and so on f course

The cool thing about this card is wghen your opponent suffers from this cards activation.

You have a Call of the Haunted set for a turn, and it is now your Battle Phase. You activate Call of the Haunted to bring back Strike Ninja, and your opponent chains their Call of the Haunted to bring back Jinzo, then you chain Trap Jammer to their Call of the Haunted. The game these days, not too many people run Counter Traps, unless it involves some sort of Stall Type deck, or a Solemn Judgment deck.

You have 3 Blade Knights face-up in attack mode, and you feel pretty confident what that 1 Set Spel/Trap cards you opponent sets, but you have Trap Jammer to back you up. So you declare an attack, with relief your opponent activates Mirror Force, hoping to eliminate your monsters, but then you chain Trap Jammer. As easy as 1-2-3.

Sorry for the short review people, but this card is pretty underated, it's probably good for side deck material.

Thanks for reading this short and simple review. Until then....

A brilliant but underrated trap. I am surprised people don't run this in some of their decks as their are so many destruction trap cards that happen during the battle phase. I am sure some day soon, someone will make a deck with cards like these in which work perfectly well. Nice review.

I love "Trap Jammer" personally.

That said...

You have to look at the number of trap cards that is run in the average deck. At most it's roughly 20% which isn't a large number.

Second of those cards that people deck, what can only be run in the damage step? Mirror Force, Sakuretsu Armor, Magic Cyliner are the most common ones so again, your pool of cards is even smaller. While people do activate Call of the Haunted or Waboku in there (and subject to negation) it's not all that common (esp. "Waboku" where the smart duelist will make sure to activate it before the Battle Phase). I found myself switching it out for "Seven Tools of the Bandit" because despite having to pay 1000 life points, I found I needed the flexibility more.

"Trap Jammer" is underappreciated, but unfortunately it's far too situational to be of practical use.

Trap Jammer is almost better than Seven Tools of Bandit. That's just my own opinion. However, Trap Jammer would never good to go up against burn deck (they never enter battle phase). both Trap Jammer and seven tools of bandit are ok card, however, I think nobody run like 10 trap cards in their deck. So I never see Trap negator in anyone's deck.

I think its a very good card. although it can only be activated during battle phrase, theres still some level of flexibility there. I mean if you have three of four traps down and u have mst in ur hand, and ur opponent has 1 trap and u r suspecting it might be a dust or a wabuku, just declare u r going into battle phrase then activate ur mst to get rid of the trap. even the trap is a chainable trap such as dust tornato or wabuku, u still get to negate its effect for free right. its definately an underrated card. I got laughed at by my friend when he saw me had a Trap Jammer in my deck, but hey, that Trap Jammer saved me from losing the duel when he activates his cylinder.
