Ultimate Offering, another question

Can Ultimate Offering chain its effect to its activation? Fox example, Player A uses Mobius to attack Player B's Magician of Faith in attack position, can Player B activates Ultimate Offering during battle phase to sacrifice Magician of Faith and summon Summoned Skull? Or Ultimate Offering has to be activated before the attack (in Player A's main phase 1) to allow Player B to use its effect during the battle phase?

Before Kevin Tewart Clarified the amount of chains we could have in the battle step, we thought we could only have one. So to make Ultimate Offerings work, it had to be face up and active to be any use in the battle phase. But if im not mistaken one can now Activate it in response to an attack, then start a NEW chain and use its effect now that its face up and active.

If I'm mistaken please say so.

Player A declares Attack
Player A passes priority
Player B Activates Face Down Ultimate Offering
Player A does not respond
Player B: Ultimate offering can Not activate its effect yet, if player B does not respond, we begin resolving:
Ultimate Offering Resolves now allowing its effect to activate.

A chain resolved, turn player has Priority to activate a card (still in the battle step)
Player A passes priority
Player B activates face-up Ultimate Offering
Player A does not respond
Player B does not respond
Ultimate Offering resolves: Player B chooses monster to summon and offers necessary tributes
#of monsters on Defending Players side of the field changed due to the effect of a Trap/Quick-Play spell card: Replay Triggered

Normally, a card that does not have an immediate effect when activated must wait until the card itself resolves before using its effect if it is activated (flipped face-up) in a chain.

If you activated it on your turn, you can use its effect only in Main Phase 1 or Main Phase 2.  On your Opponents turn, you can activate it during their Battle Phase, but only if it was already active PRIOR to the first Battle Step.

Ultimate Offering would truly be a broken card if you were allowed to Normal Summon at will.  I dont not know the rationale behind the restriction to Main Phases and your opponents Battle Phase, but I would assume that it would prevent card abuse.

Of course the Main Phase issue could just be that since you are normally able to summon a monster in either of those phases, you just would have to pay 500 life points to do so again.

The Battle Phase is a little more trickier. I would assume that since it is a Trap Card, that like any other trap that can summon a monster in the Battle Phase, you can activate this one, with the restriction of only during your opponents Battle Phase.

I am still young in the force of judging...but I believe there is some else involved with the fact that Ultimate Offering is a continuous trap card, which by the mechanics of things adds a few restrictions on things.

I hit the RONIN and the UDE site and looked into Ultimate Offering and Skull Lair and found nothing, but I remember something on that topic was mentioned before. Maybe I'll hit up the realms archives next.

As previously stated, it would be too broken if you could activate it during your own battle phase. Look at it like this:

Say you have "Berzerk Gorilla" on your side of the field, and your opponent only has "Gemini Elf". The cards in your hand are "Spirit Reaper", "End of Anubis" and "Blue Eyes White Dragon". If you could activate "Ultimate Offering" during your battle phase you can:

1) Attack with "Berzerk Gorilla", destroying "Gemini Elf" (inflict 100 damage)
2) Summon "Spirit Reaper" and attack (inflict 300 and force a discard).
3) Offer "Spirit Reaper" as a tribute and summon "End of Anubis" and attack (inflict 2500)
4) Offer the rest as a tribute again and summon BEWD (inflict 3000)

So for a small price to pay, you've just inflicted 5900 damage, and forced a discard.

Without that restriction, your options are far more limited and you need to decide what would be best for the situation.

It is (or was) to avoid one-turn-kills and rediculous combinations. If you could activate it in your Battle Phase you could simply keep summoning and attacking until the opponent is dead. There are also a lot of side combos that would just make it rediculous (if the proper deck were built). Also, think of the size fo the monsters you could bring out, you could bring a lot of big powerful tribute monsters out very easily, for a small price. It would be the return of the Summoned Skull...

Early on it made sense, but I'm seeing less and less of a reason to limit this, considering all of the defensive options now, as well a card selection.

what happend if I use Ultimate offering to tribut summoned Jinzo?
And can the efect of UO, can be negated by MST or Dust tornado?

Jinzo's effect doesn't occur until it is summoned.. it won't have any effect on UO trying to summon it.

You may chain MST or Dust Tornado to Ultiamte offering.. However your opponent may chain Ultimate Offering to MST or Dust Tornado (Ultimate offering may use its effect multiple times in a chain)

:argh: so let me get this straight..... if you activate Ultimate Offerings during your opponents battle phase..... you can summon a monster to the field??? how is this so ....
