Welcome... the Premium Packs?!?

According to Shonen Jump Volume 5, Issue 7 (aka Next Month) there is an announcement coming that the TCG is getting their own Premium Pack. For those who don't know what that is, let me put it this way. You know all those promo cards we've wanted forever and have never gotten? Most of those are in the Premium Packs that was under the control of Shueisha (who owned the Jump magazines and thereby they were the ones who had to release it). From the main thread on Pojo, UDE's Netrep Curtis Shultz even verified that this is indeed coming.

15 Cards are in the set. The cards are all holo (either Super or Secret Rare). Here's your list so far:

Magician Of Black Chaos
Ritual Of Black Magic
Metalmorph (alt art)
Red Eyes Black Metal Dragon (alt art)
Dark Magic Curtain
Shield Crush
Marshmallon
Gemini Imps
Return Zombie
Legacy Of Yata-Garasu

Javelin Beetle Pact

3 More are still to be revealed. Most of these cards are wanted by Old School Collectors. But yes, you did read right. Marshmallon is coming. And Shield Crush (which makes up for it not being in the FotB Secret Rares).

Also mentioned is that the FotB Blister will have 3 Packs (2 FotB and 1 IOC (?!?)) and 3 Promo cards.

I did the same thing when I saw the packs for FOTB. IOC?? The only reason I can figure they did that was because of the chaos monster tie-ins.

As for the Premium Packs, I hope they don't cost a premium penny, or be limited to premium players, or anything else of that sort.

Anyone familiar with the pack size, or any other details, of these Premium Packs?
 
Well, I checked out that link and they said it will be 5 cards per pack. Prize is yet unknown and they should come out in July or so ...
 
It will be previewed in July, released in September. 15 cards in the set, 5 cards per pack. Each pack has 2 secret rares and 3 super rares. Of the 12 cards listed, they are spread out from Premium Pack 2 through 6 in Japan. The only thing I can't tell you is Price.
 
To quote from another game just recently announced:

I figure one of the cards is probably Marshmallon's glasses, it would make sense anyway, if we're getting Marshmallon, and the Legacy of Yata-Garasu both. Magician of Black Chaos.... Dark Magic Curtain.... oh sweet jeezuz, it's about time. Only took forever and a day, but it'll be nice to see these finally getting released, for sure.
 
I had heard about this through SJ and could not believe what I was seeing, surely I thought it was fake, but there was each card in English... Anyway, now that it's confirmed, I'm even more amazed, it being a Premium Pack threw me off. (Only players with Premium hairdos get them)
 
nice marshmellon is a sweet card indeed. I play it on wi-fi 2007 ww championship. now ijust need dandilion to come out and monarchs willbe even more godly, since ude allways take our godly cards away and make us cry in corners.
 
Yay for Shield Crush and Marshmellon. Shield Crush is as good as Smashing Ground IMO.

And IMO, everybody is gunna throw in 1x Marshmellon into their deck, especially burn decks.

Anyway, other then that, isn't Dark Magic Curtain the one you pay like 1/2 your LP to special summon Dark Magician from your deck or something.

And Legacy of yata is also a classic. Now all we need is like Devil's Sanctuary or something.

Yeah, Return Zombie and Legacy of Yata-Garasu were printed at the time where Yata-locks were king, in hopes they might stop it. It didn't. They made a banned list. It stopped it. ;)

At least Legacy outclasses Jar of Greed in all aspects, really, and Return Zombie can have some use, so it's not completely worthless, just, pretty close.

Well, from that list, the only card I care is Shield Crush and Marshmellon, but I bet those would be the most high priced cards along with being Secret Rare. (I bet it's like 1x Secret Rare and 2x Super rare in the 3 card pack)

The way most people use Legacy is to summon a spirit and then creature swap or mystic box it to the opponent, following by activating it.

Activate one of the following effects
*Draw 1 card from your deck
*Draw 2 cards from your deck. You can only activate this effect if there is a spirit monster on your opponents field.


So now you can run 6 Jar of Greed. Great. Can you say Exodia?
 
WOW.. finally.. after so long a waiting.... holy WOW>... I have not been actively involved in the TCG for awhile, but I may just so that I can finally finish my Dark Magician Deck... look out everyone.. DM just got usable in tournaments... oh ya... if u dont believe, just wait and u will see...... Im going to make a run old school style that no one has seen for ages... Dark Magician is going to rise to his pedestal and stay there...

ok, rant over,,, Im probably not going to make that run, but I just wanted to seem cool for a sec.... this is a great thing tho... FINALLY, the premium packs...

The last 3 cards in the set have been revealed. Marshmallon Glasses is 1 (No surprise there) and the last 2:

Ok, so the set as a collective whole on the tournament scene features 1 Fabulous card everyone will run (Marshmallon), 1 not bad card that will probably see a lot of play initially (Shield Crush) and a whole lot of things that may see play just because it's new. As a collective whole though, on the tournament level, "meh" (really, 3 Ritual Monsters with no effect at all).

That said, from the collector's point of view, this is the most beautiful thing that's come along in years. An all holo set with cards we've been waiting years for? Who cares if there's no reason at all to run Magician of Black Chaos outside of a Dark Magician Girl Themed deck... it's one of "the" cards that helped define the game initially and it's release in the TCG is way overdue, but glad to finally have you. Further cards like Legacy of Yata Garasu and Metalmorph aren't really bad, you just have to build your deck a little different to fully take advantage of them.

My guess is that Shield Crush will be a Super Rare and whichever card is PP01-EN004 will be the 5th Secret Rare (I'm guessing 5 Secret Rares and 10 Super Rares for the set). Most likely it will be Red-Eyes B. Metal Dragon, but it could be Metalmorph as well.

Now all that's left to ask is "Anyone going to San Diego that weekend and willing to pick me up a few packs?" :D
