Well, I went to the Greensboro Regionals, Dec. 11th

Well, I didn't get to go. T_T Anyway, for those of you wondering, Kagadesires is referring to Jarod Larue of the Game Haven Refugees. *I'm on GHR too, link in my sig* Wil Loftis ended up taking second. His 8th Top 8, I think? Or 6th, still, a hell of a good player.

2) Sidedecked Dark Worlds win games.
3) RftDD is about the most overhyped deck type out there. Yeah it's good...but not just anybody can pick it up and play it. And some people (coughcoughJoshHorncough) need to learn this.
6) Megacyber is NOT a viable counter to Cyber Dragons.
7) Meane is great removal negation (Smashing...I dare you; I've got another)
9) Strike+Meane does not mean you are extra prepared for removal. It means you are dumb for putting two cards in the same deck that don't work towards the same goal.
10) Burn and OTK aren't that big of a threat as long as your side-deck doesn't suck.
12) Reaper is evil on so many levels.

All my yugi career i talked about these things. and yet nobody believed me.

goes too show... Metagame doesnt have the answer to everything.

the reason why don and rats have all this insnae power is becuase people forgot about their sidedecks.

thouse 15 cards, can make you or break you. NO matter what happens, at regionals it will be a gold mine to use.

Asura Priest, dark world monsters, etc.. all those.

good stuff, that people dont use.

notice everybody is running 7-8 traps but nobody is runing decrees how everybody expected in the first place.

goes to show...

Yeah, Wil's one of the best out there. He definitely proved that when he took 11th at Nats earlier this year as well.

I was surprised I couldn't find you, lol. I remember walking up to Don and asking "Have you seen John?" And when he said "No." My immediate answer was "Well, it'd be hard to miss him if he was here, the guys like this tall (held hand above his hand as far as he could reach)." Seriously man... you're tall, lol.

As far as to answer pssvr's question, yeah, there's a regional/PCQ again in Durham next month on the 15 I believe (with Richmond on the 14). In any case, I should be at both events, but if you want to meet up in Durham, that'd be cool. I don't know in what compacity I'll be there in yet though. David did a good job judging VS this past weekend so I might be able to get a break from there for awhile, especially if Ryan judges VS again as well. But as far as their YGO judges go, they had a lot of new guys I didn't even know on the floor in Greensboro, I don't know how the judging for the regional went, but I'm still considered one of Star City's better judges, even though I haven't judged a regional since June (I did head judge the Richmond Sneak Preview for CRV though).

In any case, Matt hasn't gotten back to anyone on staffing yet for the two events next month, but whether I'm playing VS or judging either game (or both, which has happened to me in the past) then I'll be there. You can probably see me there since I believe it's the Marriott downtown in Durham again, which has a pretty huge ball room that we use. I'll let you know what I'm doing as the date gets closer, and tell you how you can pick me out from there, obviously I'll be easier to pick out if I'm judging.

But I'll get back to you, lol.

Man, I gotta stop reading this thread...I'm getting depressed.

Most the CoGers are on the east coast, I don't have the time at the moment to drive down to LA to hook up with the West Coast CoGers, and there isn't a Vegas regional/sneak until February at the earliest, from what I'm seeing.

<sigh /> and now I'm debating about taking my Fiendosity deck instead of judging....oh the withdrawl. 8^D

I went :D I wish I would have known you were there I would have looked for you. I did not have a good time, I learned that my deck totally blew and that my almost a month of fooling around proved to be fatal. I am working on my deck for the next one and I am going to spend every day until the event working on it no matter what it takes, I am going to go there to redeem my most horrible regional record ever.

I've been working on Small Fiends for well over a year, and it got smashed. That hasn't stopped me, and I had a wonderful time. What's your big issue? Somebody there flame you, or what?

It's about enjoying yourself, not winning. 15 dollars is a small price to pay to spend an afternoon with complete strangers who understand every word that comes out of your mouth. Seriously, that's what tournaments are for: cult-ish stuff. Like walking right up to someone you don't know and saying, "I will pwn you with my Baby Dragon!" and having him understand it. That's what it's about, not winning.

That is called hobby league / Duelist League.

Regional = Invination to Invitation Only Events.

See thats the thing about yugi, nobody takes it seriously.

How do you think I feel? I live close by and never get to go to these events. I've never met anybody in person. And to top it all off, I think some of my closest friends actually DO know some of you in person. :cog_cryin

Mike, did you play a big black dude in VS draft? He's at my house two to four times a week, and has appearently played you before. I know he's met chaosruler, and I think he even knows desetsu_x! And what's even sadder is that I'm pretty sure he met a lot of you before I even joined this forum! Not to mention some of the other cats that you've probably met that are at my house all the time.

Ack! I'm going to try to make the next one in January. I just have to decide if I'm going to play VS or Yu-Gi-Oh! :duel_no_j :vs_flight

DJ.. There is absolutly no competition there, take the serious game.

play Vs. :)

normally, i would say, magic, but vs. is preaty darn good to mess with.

you hear about silver age?

i dont know about you but that is very similar to Extended in Magic.

and Modern is very close to Standard in Magic and Golden Age is very close to Legacy in magic.

very fishy...

I take it seriously. When I go to regionals it is not about fun or games or anything like that. It's about working my butt off to get a playmat and an invite. Which i'm working on right now I am going to spend the next whatever month until regionals anaylzing my play flaws and trying to correct them while at the same time trying to find a deck I can indentify with that actually stands a chance in the meta. This game is not a game to me, I take yugioh so seriosuly that maybe I take it over serious and should not get frustrated or depressed when I fail after trying so far.

Well, its a mixed boat to get up to NoCal vs SoCal. I either have to do down to Barstow, go over to Bakersfield, and drive up to NoCal, or drive all the way up to Reno and cut over that way. But I'm up for road trips one of these days, just gotta get the Mrs. to come along or approve of it 8^D

Eh, if you do, make sure you find a place to stay a LONG time. You have to meet all of us (at least once) and there's no telling how long it may be before you get to go on a road trip again... what with the price of gas...

...yeah, come stay at my house we'll have a sleep over! ;)

<EDIT: Something else just occurred to me about the regionals. I played a beastdown / chaos hybrid. That I could've beat if I hadn't made a stupid mistake after a Cyber Jar flip. But just so you know, beastdown. And he used those Enraged Battle Oxen well. It was scary the way they went straight at my life>

Yeah we played and I've met him before. I judged the PCQ's on day 2 of the 10K/SJC at HeroesCon in June this year and was judging the PCQ that he split in the finals at. We played in the sealed this past weekend and then both ended up in the finals and we decided to split. He's a pretty cool guy and nice to talk to.

Yep, it's fishy all right.

It's callled the fact that at least 75% of the UDE R&D team played or judged Magic at some point in their life. Funny enough, the same thing can almost be said about the UDE execs. when you look at people like Charsky and what not.

Hehehe. Yeah, this ii the guy that helped me get into both Yu-Gi-Oh! and VS when I didn't have a lot of money to buy packs. Well, ANY money really. Where is the next PC going to be? Greensboro again, or Charlotte? I've made plans to go with them this time. (Sort of invited myself since no one was offering, <grumble>) So you might see me there. I'll be the only guy carrying a light saber who is also on fire! :drunk_jed

ahaha, thats so true, the funny thing is that thouse guys now cant really focus on one game or another. Did you watch Antonino De Rosa draft during Worlds? man, it didnt even seem like he wanted to be there.

Yea you take it seriously, but you get to hear about all these other people that are like, Ohh yea i took this one stupid deck, it was funny OR ya I just went for the sake of going I realy dont care about it. Or the parents of Yugi that interrupt games.

see you or I could take it seriously but other people are like, no its just a little game there is nothing to win from it.

while its true there isnt anything big to win from it... It goes to show how smart you are with your game play.
