What's the difference between American and European cards?

I picked up at Target yesterday two packages of cards that came with 2 packs of Dark Crisis and 2 packs of Blue Eyes each, and then I noticed it said the BEWD series were the European edition. What's the difference?

Also the text is a tad darker as well. Basically, Europeans are doing it right.

Some of the earlier sets, LOB, MRD, SRL, SDY, SDK? had different cards in them as well. For example, Pot of Greed came in Spell Ruler overseas, not Legend of Blue-Eyes White Dragon.

I don't think there has been a lick of difference since MRL/SRL, though.

And just as a friendly "chime in". If you aren't aware of it yet, you are allowed now to use international cards in local tournaments in the United States. As long as they aren't japanese, chinese, or asian-english (I think that's what they label it) and you can provide a sample or adequate translation for the card (we all know what Magician of Faith looks like) you can use them in tourneys. The last regional in Vegas we had had a couple people sporting some german cards and some spanish ones as well. From what I hear they are cheaper to get.

Also the text is sometimes SLIGHTLY different. Like for example the DOD-EN text for Dark Sage was slightly different than the DOD text of Dark Sage. It was nothing major, just missing a word or so or changing a word or so for grammar reasons.

To go with what djp said the early sets did differ a fair bit. Just get a price guide and you will see some of the differences.

A couple of examples. In LOB they didnt even give us hitotsu-me giant or flame swordsman

See that is what pisses me off about their international policy. WTOC has a good one for Duel Masters. You could use Japanese cards provided you have the card or an adaquete translation of it. Something like that. Sometimes I want to use my Japanese Water Omatics.

Indeed, and Flame Swordsman was downgraded to a common in MRL.

I gotta get me the new price guide. I like having the pictures to look at. Also shows the cool japanese cards we will never have

I only have the 04/05 one.

Hell, I'd love to use my Yami Malik Structure Deck I got from Japan.

The reason they probably don't allow it, is that they'll make more money this way, than by being FAIR, and allowing it.

And don't forget that by the opinion of many people, including myself, the TCG is a separate yet extremely similar, game than the OCG. While the rules are closing in on each other rapidly, the varying card pool and the attitudes given to each 'segment' of Yu-Gi-Oh! are still vastly different.

This may change in the future, but for now I really consider them to be two separate things, only brought together once a year at Worlds more for the spectacle than anything else. For better or worse I happen to agree with the continuing decision to keep it the way it is and not allow Japanese cards to be used in formal competition.

Now, not having the same card pool across the entire TCG is a separate matter that I do think should be addressed. It is not fair at all to not have all promos available around the same time for any TCG player, regardless of where in the world they happen to live.

No what I mean is, if I have Bolshack Dragon in English and for whatever reasons, I wanted to use my Japanese Bolshack Dragon I could use it thanks to WTOC policy. But yeah I agree with everything else above though.
