When can you respond?

OK this a tough question

We all know that you can MST a trap/spell the moment it is set, to stop them from using it.

But can we respond to a movement, like adding a card to your hand

Here's the scenario

Player A activates The Warrior Returning Alive and selects Black luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beggining
Player B does not chain , so BLS-EOTB is put in Player A's hand.

Player B then activates Mind Crush, calling BLS-EOTB, before Player A can summon it.
BLS-EOTB is sent to the graveyard

Now is that legal. Can we respond to a movement , such as adding a card to a hand?

Bishop is right. You can't answer to an action which is being resolved in a Chain. You have to wait until the Chain is finished. A Response Chain is possible after the first chain resolves, and then Player B could activate Mind Crush, before the Turn Player could summon.

This should be the correct situation, IMO.

EDIT: OK, we see only a link here, but the answer does not change.

Hold on a second, that scenerio didn't have a chain at all. The Warrior Returning Alive would resolve and finish its effect. Then Mind Crush could be acivated before they summon BLS.

Bishop, i'm not sure now whether you were answering my question, thinking that I was chaining or were you answering it as i have now stated it as above

I'm going to have to say that that is in fact legal based on the expoliation of the ruling made by the level 3 judge in a previous post regarding Creature Swap, Compulsory Evacuation Device, and Jinzo (posted here: http://nforums.netrep.net/index.php/topic,1877.0.html ).

here's the quote:

He would have "Priority" once the Creature Swap resolved. Thus if his next move was to summon Jinzo Compulsory would not have a window of opportunity to be activated.

Incorrect. The chain or card effect did not end in a summon. After resolution of Creature Swap priority would be passed to the non-turn player to activate a spell speed 2 or higher card he has set, if the non-turn player does not or cannot then turn player would assume priority once again.

If the chain or card effect had ended in a summon then turn player would have been able to activate a spell speed 2 or cost effect before non-turn player would be able to respond.

I thought this was the most clearly stated answer and I wanted to see if my ideas about order of play in this situation are correct.

1.  "The Warrior Returning Alive" resolves with BLS-EotB added to the turn player's hand; an entire chain has finished resolving
2.  The turn player waves the right to start a "Response Chain" in which the last fact to resolve is a card added to the turn player's hand.
3.  The non-turn player starts the "Response Chain" by activating "Mind Crush"

I believe this is what is being suggested by the above quote.  Summoning would not be a valid action for starting a chain because it doesn't have a spell speed, so the non-turn player would be able to activate "Mind Crush" before the turn player could summon.

A quick related question.

Can you respond to a phase change during your opponents turn with a card like Needle Wall?

Needle Wall - Trap - Continous - During your Standby Phrase, roll a six-sided die once. Treat your opponent's Monster Card Zone as #'s 1-5, counting from your right. Destroy the monster that is in the same Monster Card Zone as the die result. If the result is 6, roll again.

Thanks :)

Here is the way I see it. You are trying to "responed" to BLS-EotB going to the hand. I say this is a legal move. Once BLS-EotB is in the hand Warrior Returning Alive has resolved.

it cause sometimes, players do moves and boom do other moves with out hessitating.

its like when you summon and next thing you know your staring at a bottomless trap hole.

its like, what the hell.

now that we are using priority everytime i play "the dawn of destiny" on xbox i hate it when i summon a spell speed 1 effect monster and the opponent activates traphole.

its like, wtf, dude!

but i cant scream at my xbox. :(

but at the opponent, then they can piss on them selfs. >:O

lol

just messing.
