Why do the US cards get edited?

www.cardhaus.com also has a lot of japanese cards with pictures.

Also, I don't think that the skull was any problem, because Skull Red Bird and Giant Red also contain skulls.
That's actually one of the things we discussed in the old thread. There is no consistency in the edits. Which just leaves you scratching your head sometimes. For some reason, they edited ever instance of a Harpie Lady's costume, but let Harpie Girl flit about in the same un-edited half-naked costume. They removed every instance of a halo on angels, because, well, I'm not sure why. I guess halos on angels are bad or offensive to someone, somewhere. But they kept the halo on petit angel. They put pants on the guy on Nightmare Wheel and quite a few other nude, genderless characters except Final Flame. You could say they just overlooked it, but the English version is a re-illustration of the original card called Burned at the Stake. So why edit-in a pants-less guy when you edit all the other instances out? I don't mind edits. I just don't understand where they are going with them. It seems disorganized and a waste of resources.

maybe someone should request that UDE asks konami to release the original art cards as some kind of promotional thing of some kind. That way they can see if they have a market for the unedited stuff while still being able to revert to their editing ways if need be.

They edited Harpie Girl in Harpie's Baby Pet Dragon, so I guess that when they reprint the series from SOD, she would be in the same clothing as in HBPD.

Even if the distributor has no control, the fact that they cannot even voice it to the company is their own fault and I place the blame to them. I seriously am not ok with some Japanese business dude in Japan telling me what I am supposed to see since my country is so retarded on censorship that the soccer moms will revolt and cause mayhem to them. The edits are inconsistent and stupid. We can say heaven, but OMG NOT HELL?

This is the same reason why I hate the fact that Japan has better morals and censorship laws than us. Pretty pathetic when a kid in Japan could watch an uncut anime and be fine, but in America we show DBZ uncut at 7:30 PM and OMG Soccer Mom Power ACTIVATE! This is the same thing with Mr. Satan and Hercule that always makes me upset to live in this country. We just got some retarded laws. But the fact remains, Konami are bad businessmen.

Let's not forget that 30 to 50 years ago, a child could watch a mouse trap a cat in a box and then saw the box in half and the neighborhood kids wouldn't try it to see if it works in real life. When I was younger, I saw Elmer Fudd shoot and kill a guy in the audience because he kept getting up and blocking the screen. I saw Popeye get so irritated at a shipmate that kept messing up his birthday party, that he shot the guy in dark room while the guy was singing "Happy Birthday to My Pal". They still show the Horten Hatches the Egg cartoon, but right when the fish that looks like Peter Lorie comes out of the water (and sees Horten sitting on the nest in that big boat) and says "Now I've seen everything", they cut out the part where he pulls out a revolver and shoots himself in the head.

No, these were not episodes of The Family Guy. These where the original cartoons as they came out in the theaters years ago. The Popeye cartoon I mentioned was even in Black & White. After he shoot the guy, they play funeral music and instead of "The End" they put "The Bitter End". I haven;t seen any of them in recent years.

Times have changed, and kids aren't as, well, quick as they used to be. That's just a fact of the times. You didn't have children going up for Murder One 30 to 50 years ago. I don't want me kid seeing certain things, even though I wold like them to enjoy things along those lines. Like TCGs for example.

Whether or not it's the soccer moms who raise a rucus, it's still the sole discretion of Konami to do what they to do with their own card set. The mail man can't tell you what to write to your mom, can he? He can't tell you what kind of pictures to send your girlfriend and he can't demand that you not subscribe to certain magazines. Is that the Mail Man's fault? When you sign a contract with someone to distribute your product, you haven't' a leg to stand on when it comes to deciding what the product should include. All you can choose to do is not distribute it any more, unless of course you contract says otherwise. Why would they have a single thing to do with what Konami prints. It's not their company in any way shape or form. That's like me telling Disney not to build and ride, and when they build it, say it's all my fault they didn't listen.

DJ, I think kids can handle the images of today since they did in the past. Shoot I recently found a stick at my Grandma's house she said she broke over my uncle's back, and he came out OK. No psychological trauma, he just knows not to **** off grandma.

The truth is the parents of today can't handle it.

Theres too much love and caring in the world today. Back years ago there were wars and stuff going on that hardened people up. We didnt care what was going on in the news and in comics or in games cos of course war was worse and war was as real as a slap in the face.

We all need to harden ourselves up again and realise that we still can and do have wars and other such things today. We cant be afraid of our children finding out about things like death and blood and disembowelling cos they will from the news at least anyhow. Besides by the age of 8 most kids know all about sex why should we imagine violence is any different. Im sure they have all gotten into a fight or two where people have bled. ya cant exactly say to them that that wasnt real. Now the religious iconography thing i can understand cos they market originally into the states and the US has this whole thing of keeping religion out of almost everything so konami wanted to abide by that but all in all its a pointless endeavour.

I gotta ask this...... Do you guys have any links to sites in english that have the original artwork. I can understand if you dont wanna post a link due to possible content issues but I thought id ask just in case

Except there is NOTHING questionable in the content of the cards.

And I agree. Parents don't want to do their jobs anymore. They want everyone else but themselves to pamper and teach their kids what they should be doing because they are way too friggin lazy. Where I used to live, kids would always skip school. You know what the parents would say (well, parent, since it was often there was no father)? "You should go to school because they will teach yous to learn."

That is why I even dislike the country I live in even more day after day. It is a shame that parents and children are more mature and able to handle more in Japan than they are in USA for example. Most parents just do not want to accept the fact that you suck as parent and you do not take responsibility for your job as a parent. I wonder how many parents I can ask that will tell me that they eventually sat down with their children and explained sex to them in detail and what are the dos and do nots and how to protect yourself and etc?

Yet, we were able to have a cartoon like Tom & Jerry kids could watch.

Just to clarify, Japan has many censorship laws as well. They aren't better or worse, they are different. Many things get outlawed in a zealous haste to prevent truly bad things from happening. Sometimes laws get put on the books because somebody too high up in the power structure personally dislikes something.

500 years ago public executions were a popular form of entertainment. 100 years ago better than 50% of the population were accustomed with killing an animal they were going to consume for a meal. As we have yet to put a stop to violent crime in our society we have created new rules of things not to be shown to children as they may or may not have an impact on what they do later in life. It does not mean that parents are less parental today than they were 20 years ago. It does not mean a child of today is less capable of dealing with things. It means society hasn't solved the problems it has so it keeps making new rules and trying new things to fix things.

I would say that there are different cultural values in different places. For example, the ancient symbol known as the swastika, or broken cross, which has been around since the bronze age; is in Jainism, Buddhism and Hinduism considered a holy symbol, and in many cases a lucky symbol. Indeed, many temples have quite noticable swastikas displayed. In the western world however, it is best known as the symbol used by the Nazi party of 1920s-40s Germany.

There was a pokemon card with a swastika symbol on it released in Japan, that was not released in the US following outcry, despite that the symbol symbolises something completely different over there....

Additionally- different places (and times) have different acceptances towards both sex and violence. Hollywood movies often have levels of violence considered unacceptable in Europe, whilst in France and Germany billboards with fully topless models are not uncommon. British newspapers often have topless photos, and german and scandinavian mixed naked saunas are just part of life. To be perfectly honest, I am still amazed by my host nations glorification of violence ad weapons, whilst being remarkably prudish about sex and nudity. Of course, this is just the way I view things ;)
actaully the symbol used in hindu is this:

Notice that the angles used on them are completly different. Dont let it confuse you, while angles may not mean a thing to some it actually means alot.

A good way to remember this is by watching the first part of the movie The Davinci Code

in the beggining were Tom Hanks as Dr. Robert Langdon talks about different signs and so on and so forth.

The Star of David is a simple ten pointed star. Slap a circle around it and turn it upside down and you've got a pentagram. And most Americans equate a pentagram with Satanisim. It's al relative. I use to enjoy drawing stars when I was little. I'm fairly certain I drew a circle around half of them. Good thing no one took it the wrong way. -_-
