Wicked Hats

Just a quick question...

If you use Magical hats to bring 2 trap cards, "Wicked Statue"s to the field face down, and my opponent attacks them, are they being destroyed while face down or face up? Normall I'd assume face up, since they were flipped, but because of the ruling of D.D. Survivor now I'm not so sure.....

They will be sent to the Graveyard without effect. "D.D. Survivor"'s effect only applies on an attack if it was face-up prior to the attack, I heard the rule awhile back I think.

Anyway, if you keep them safe until the end of the Battle Phase they will be destroyed face-down by the effect of "Magical Hats" =3.

But that's just what I'm getting at!

Survivor:

"When this card is removed from play while face-up on your side of the field"

Statue of the Wicked:

"When this face-down card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard"

In the first scenario you have a face down survivor being attacked. Then flipped, then destroyed (and RFGed.)

In the second, the Statue is being attacked, flipped, and then destroyed. It's the exact same thing!

And yet they seem to work differently. Of course we know that Survivor doesn't get his effect (even though he technically was face up when he was destroyed). And the statue, when attacked was face down (much like how Survivor was) and then destroyed while face up.

I'm just saying that these two cards are similar with their restrictions, so why can't they work the same way?

If the Statue said "When this Face-up card is destroyed" it would probably work the same way as Survivor, so why not when it's face down being attacked?

Just another reason why I dislike the rulings on Survivor.

Because a monster whose effect specifically reads that it activates when face-up has to be face-up prior to the attack for the trigger to apply in any such case.

They shortened it into a rule, otherwise every monster that played by that rule would have to be worded like "Poison Draw Frog", and there's no sense in that old technique.

Final Attack Orders
"As long as this card remains on the field, all face-up monsters on the field are changed to Attack Position and their battle positions cannot be changed."

But when you attack a face down monster, it gets switched to attack position, since it is now face up when the attack goes though. Isn't this the EXACT same thing as with D.D. Survivor? And Statue of the wicked?? What I mean is, FAO considers a monster to be face up when the attack goes through, so why not Survivor's own ability?

Are you all telling me that if FAO and Macro Cosmos is on the field, and my opponent attacks my F/D Survivor with a 1900 monster, thust flipping it up (into attack position) and destroying it, it still does not come back?

It's just too hard to comprehend.

It just must be one of those "because Konami said so" things that bug me, and I'm going to have to accept that, right?

It's just the way D.D. Survivor works. It must be face-up before the attack is declared in order to get its effect. I have no idea why they didn't put that in the card text. Probably going for simplicity over accuracy, I expect.

How about this for a text? A bit clumsy, but sorts out a couple of rulings (including the "once per turn" one that bizarrely was left out of the text).

D.D. Survivor
Effect Monster (Warrior / DARK / 4 Stars / ATK 1800 / DEF 200)
Once per turn, when this face-up card you control is removed from play, you Special Summon it during the End Phase. To use this effect when this card is destroyed by battle and removed from play, it must be face-up when the attack was declared.

Yes it would make more sense if it was written more clearly like that. We all know how Poison Draw Frog's effect clearly states

"When this face-up card on the field is sent to the Graveyard (unless it was attacked while face-down and destroyed as a result of battle), you can draw 1 card from your Deck."

this card adresses the fact that it could be sent from the graveyard in battle after being flipped.

UDE YOU NEED TO DO A BETTER JOB! You can hire me to work for you! (lol)
Ok, I'm done with my rant and all. ^.^
