Y-Dragon Head MFC-EN005

Y-Dragon Head
Union Monster (Machine / LIGHT / 4 Stars / ATK 1500 / DEF 1600)

Once per turn, during your Main Phase, if you control this card on the field, you can equip it to your "X-Head Cannon" as an Equip Card, OR unequip the Union equipment and Special Summon this card in face-up Attack Position. While equipped to a monster by this card's effect, increase the ATK/DEF of the equipped monster by 400 points. (1 monster can only be equipped with 1 Union Monster at a time. If the equipped monster is destroyed as a result of battle, destroy this card instead.)

"¢ If "Y-Dragon Head"'s ATK is doubled with "Limiter Removal", and then "Y-Dragon Head" is equipped to "X-Head Cannon", "Y-Dragon Head" is not destroyed at the end of the turn.

Ah, the 2nd piece of the XYZ trilogy. I like this card because it's a decent DEF wall nowadays with 1600 DEF. This card isn't really splashable though, so I'd say it's only at it's best in Machine decks.

This card has twisted combos with Limiter Removal and more obviously, X-Head Cannon and Z-Metal Tank. Also has good synergy with Heavy Mech Support Platform. The comboes for this card are limited but come into play more for getting out all 3 XYZ parts.

Advantages of this Dragonic-looking Machine include the fact that it is a Machine and benefits from Machine support. Also, it's really searchable via Last Will, Shining Angel, Sangan, UFORoid (CRV).

The main disadvantage of this card is that it has sub-par ATK and it's effect isn't that good, as it's focus is rather narrow.

The main tactic with this card is to be cautious about overextending and depleting your resources. Also, be careful that you don't jump the gun and remove 2 parts of the XYZ trilogy just to draw the 3rd piece. Limiter Removal is your best friend and your worst enemy. It can win you games when played correctly, and lose you games when you misuse it.

This card is suited for Machine decks, and possibly for RFP decks. It shouldn't see play many other places.

Limited: 3.25/5
Sealed Pack: 3.5/5 If you pull one, run it.
Advanced: 4/5 Good here in comboes.
Traditional: 3.5/5 Mass removal here hurts you.

The second part of the Light Trio machine monsters. Although not as strong as his X-Head Cannon counterpart this machine still proves to be quite useful in both machine decks (more specifically XYZ decks) and Light decks.

XYZ just screams combinations. That's one of its main purpose. As a machine type it gains the benefit of three cards found in many machine decks. Heavy Mech Support Platform, Limiter Removal and Covering Fire and as a union monster Frontline Base.

Heavy Mech Support Platfrom, like Y-Dragon Head, is a union monster. Its designed to take the hit for the machine monster attached to it. Mech Support can help keep Y-Dragon Head around long enough for you to summon the other piece or pieces depending on which fusion you're going for. Mech Support will give it 500 ATK meaning a 2000 beatstick and it'll protect it from getting destroyed by card effects even your own. A Cyber Jar can go off and this guy still stick after the new monsters (if any) are summoned.

Limiter Removal is every machine's best friend... until the end of the turn, that is. Any machine monster with 1500 or higher ATK points has the potential of having their ATK skyrocket. 1 will make this 3000, 2 will make it 6000 and 3 will make it 12000. Yes, the monster is destroyed at the end of turn but because this card is quick-play, you can activate the Limiters right during the damage step where only counter traps and Kuribohs (if its not their turn) can possibly save them from losing the game. Course its possible that they do save themselves. No problem. Afterwards use an Interdimensional Matter Transporter to save your machine. It loses its ATK bonus but it won't get destroyed at the end of the turn.

Covering Fire will also protect your machine much like Limiter Removal but in a different manner. Covering Fire require another face-up machine monster on your side of the field. Its ATK is added basically to the ATK strength of the machine monster getting attacked. That should be no problem in a machine deck focuses on field presence and the XYZ's as union monsters can very easily dominate the field by presence with help from Frontline Base.

With Frontline Base in play you can summon Y- Dragon Head and special summon another part or a Heavy Mech Support Platform to keep your current XYZ Part alive long enough for another to come by . In the case its another XYZ part, already you have the ability to form a fusion: The XY-Dragon Cannon or the YZ-Dragon Tank.

As a LIGHT attribute, it can work well in more general LIGHT deck that revolve around Luminous Spark. As a LIGHT monster it can also be used as chaos food. Unless you're purposely making a Machine/Chaos variant I would not recommend this a monster for a Chaos deck.

The most obvious disadvantage is its stats. AT 1500/1600 It won't last too long against offense decks that have plenty of monsters around 1900 ATK. Quickly as possible get another piece out there to support it. As a Equip Spell it becomes susceptible to Spell/Trap removal.

Another downside is the fusions themselves. They will deplete your resources of monsters to use and resurrect. Once the fusions go. That's it. You'll need to start with a fresh set of XYZ from the deck since the ones used for the fusions are out of play. This can be counter by using Dimension Fusions. A hefty price of 2000 but its the most effective way of getting back your monsters as well using them again and again to form new fusions.

This card will work well in more general Machine decks but it has its own specific machine deck. It most useful there.

In sealed format, it's an ok Super Rare but not unless you get more machines and Frontline Base from the packs. There are better super rares that you'll want to use. 2.75/5

In traditional you better keep a close eye on it. Here it'll definitely need all the support it can get. 3.25/5

Advanced, it'll do pretty good in machines decks. Keep it covered with the aforementioned support and it'll stick around long enough to get a fusion out. 3.75/5

Just to be technical, Covering Fire doesn't need a Machine to actiave... just another monster.

It just so happens that there are 2 Machines pictured. And very cool art I might add.

These XYZ card reviews have really helped me. Im constructing an XYZ deck. When I sore Kaiba use the 3 monsters I thought they were cool, Shame he sacked for a God. Id rather have dragon Cannon.
