blah...none of the other synonyms for coffee seem to work...unless....time to follow another train of thought

Nope. But it might not be that literal of a synonym. Consider the possibilty of simply finding a word that can fit in the sentence about coffee, but won't actually change its meaning. Doesn't have to be an EXACT synonym. Just something that can go in that slot, and mean about that same thing.

Something a that can MEAN the same thing as coffee, but nonetheless isn't the dictionary match up. So tea, actually, is quite different from coffee. And tEoA seems to have the issue of that "o" in it.
