Hah! I (omfg, this is so sad...) remember that story from a recess episode! The king says the baby is to be cut in half, and the real mother then renounces her claim to the baby because she doesn't want it harmed. Then Solomon knew the one who was willing to sacrifice her happiness for the baby was the real mother.BenjaminMS said:pssvr (er... sorry: Jason), although I am not a practising Christian, I know this bit:
2 womans were fighting over a baby. Finally, they decided to ask the Jewish King Solomon for his judgment. After having heard the story from both womans, he decided. He said: 'I will split the baby in half.'
At that very moment, the real mother throw herself at the ground and said: 'Please, don't do that. (some more words, I can't remember which)'. At that moment, like Solomon knew would happen, it was clear who was the real mother, where the argument was based around...

Isn't that what renouncing a claim IS?chaosruler said:The real mother offered to let the other mother-claimer keep the baby, showing her true maternal feelings, hence Solomon knew who the true mother was.
