In the spirit of videos, I trudged out to learn how to assemble a video. It has taken me on and off all day to get something I like, but I did it, so mwah. Anyway, I'm hear broadcasting a duel video of mine in Yu-Gi-Oh! Virtual Desktop. No commentary. It's my first, so I thought music would be suitable. If I am to continue this, I'd like some feedback.

[spoil]The winner is me after a very powerful midgame move of Zerato[/spoil]

What do I mean by feedback?
  • Well, like if I am to make more videos, is music good? Or is commentary a better idea throughout the entire video?
  • Should I increase quality by cutting off chat box and hand? Also the side info bar?
  • Should I only go so long to consider a duel for a video? Or should I go longer with matches?
  • What kind of decks do you want to see (Can probably arrange just about anything)?

Hey, not bad. The compression at Veoh seems to have better resolution, too. I personally like the music. Kind of made me laugh at first. It probably would improve visualization to cut the chatbox. I would have suggested cutting the box at the side and just keeping the play field area, but that would cut the scores out. I guess you could finagle something to get the scores overlaid on the screen, but I suppose it would have to be worth the effort to you. :skull: Even so, looks pretty good and I would give cutting the chatbox a try.

Am I wrong or he couldn't use Dark Magic Curtain after he Special Summoned Dark Magician with Premature Burial?

Final Verdict

So, here's the post of reckoning.

  • Are YVD videos worth anything to anyone in this community?
  • The two format choices are either to keep it as is (all information screens), same quality, and music background; or a new idea is to cut out music for commentary, in which case we can cut everything but the actual playing field. Coupled with a LP check in the middle, and my own commentary (which is probably good), could work.
  • If you're interested, what kinds of decks do you want to see me play? And what do you want to see me play against? Anything is arrangeable, don't focus on possible limitations.
  • Is the timing good? Or do you want matches, or short duels?

You are much more conservative than I would have been...I would have used that Solemn Judgement ages ago!!! heh..
I guess it is good to witness different playstyles from ones own.
My deck would cream yours, no doubt..go Newdorias!!!! :D
Btw..I had to laff at the Tetris muzak.

personally, i approve of videos.
i'm itching to see different playstyles on top of crazy deck ideas.

i think more often than not, commentary is not necessary, unless you reach a critical juncture and your deck strategy can branch.

suggestions:
  • cut the chat menu. give better resolution for the field (since there's pics and text over the cards already)
  • you could speed up through matches, and slow it down to insert the commentary. any viewer not sure of what just happened, can just pause and take it at their own pace.
  • play with/against experimental decks. i know the first time i saw a decklist for ddt, i had no idea how it ran. then i saw someone play it, and i understood. who knows, it may spark another creative idea
  • i guess since the timing is right because we're near a new set, when scrollrack has the lodt cards, decks to see: new batterymen, lightsworn/lightlord, plasma control, froggy

The only downside about cutting the chatbox, is that he'll also be cutting his hand view as well.

that's true. and i had weighed that as well.
but the way i was seeing it, you see the duel play out. and if oceanus did the commentary at the critical moments, he'd most likely audibly reveal his hand at that moment and it'd be alright.

and by duel play out, i'd watch it as a pure observer, not knowing hands. not looking for strategy based on what's available, but what the outcomes are (if that makes any sense at all).

Oh yeah, I follow you. I was just thinking of some of the comments Necro made about how she noticed some of his top decks and whatnot. You might catch some things even he didn't notice. But, I admit, it isn't crucial.

oceanus,

if we have a requested deck we'd like to see, how do we send you the decklist?
PM, email, courier pigeon?

All of the above. You give me an idea, I'd schedule it. I have a video I'm thinking about putting together today, one I might shoot today, and then I'm free once the weekend comes in I guess.

Next item up for business. I think I'm sticking to the exact same format as I had in the video showcased here. I think it's great for analyzing all kinds of information in a Yu-Gi-Oh! video and possibly gives it replay value.

As long as my picture keeps to being readable (as it is for me), I think it's fine for now. Commentary at only certain times seems confusing or surprising.
