YGO Card Reviews & Tips

This board is for everyone to put in their 2¢ in on cards. Please read the rules before posting.
The next few cards we will be looking at are more for collectors and theme deck players than necessarily Tier 1 Tournament decks. However, like the forthcoming Magician of Black Chaos, we don't necessarily want the card for its playability. We just want them for the Coolness factor. Destiny Hero - Plasma Dark/Warrior/8/1900/600 This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by Tributing 3 monsters. Select 1 monster on your opponent's side of the field and equip it to this card (this effect can only be used once per turn and only 1 monster can be equipped at a time to this card). Increase the ATK of this card by half of the ATK of the monster equipped to this card. While this card is...
One of the more unique theme support cards that can open up a world of possibilities. Tricky Magic 4 Quickplay Spell Send 1 face-up "The Tricky" from your side of the Field to the Graveyard. Special Summon a number of "Tricky Tokens" (Wind/Spellcaster/5/2000/1200) in defense position equal to the number of monsters on your opponent's side of the field. These tokens cannot declare an attack. Where From: Limited Edition 6 Likely TCG Appearance: Shonen Jump Magazine (As some promo deal) This is the card that can make "The Tricky" a strong addition to your deck. Best used in combination with Ojama Trio or against your opponent's Scapegoat. This can be used as an alternative to Scapegoat as well, providing a solid wall against your...
An interesting card with some interesting support. Let's start with this unique addition to the game. The Tricky Wind/Spellcaster/5/2000/1200 Discard one card from your hand to Special Summon this Monster to the field. Where From: Limited Edition 6 Likely TCG Appearance: Shonen Jump Magazine (As some promo deal) The Tricky allows you to Special Summon it for the same cost as if you would Normal Summon it (1 extra card, though from your hand instead of the field). Special Summoning is always a good thing and as such this card could be used in turn for a Tribute Summon afterwards. Being a Wind and Spellcaster monster, it gives those types some extra support. The card may be a little dated today, but as you'll see later, it does...
I don't think I could have picked a shorter time span between talking about a card and when it would be released. However, considering we're getting the card actually before it's "original intended release", well, that amuses me. Since I was just talking about it, let's look a bit more into it. Expressroid Earth/Machine/4/400/1600 When this card is successfully Summoned, you can add 2 "roid" monsters from your Graveyard to your hand except for "Expressroid". Where From: Gladiator's Assault TCG Release: Syrus Truesdale Starter Deck As I mentioned in the original thread, this card will get its effect no matter how it is summoned (Normal, Special, or Flip). However it is optional so you don't have to use the effect. Expressroid is...
Reshef of Destruction must be pretty popular for them to try and complete that set. Can't explain it any other way. Gelnia Dark/Zombie/4/1300/1200 If this face-up card is destroyed by your opponent's card effect and sent to the Graveyard, Special Summon this card during your next Standby Phase to your side of the field. Where From: Reshef of Destruction Strategy Guide TCG Appearance: Champion Pack: Game Four As I stated in the Destiny Hero - Plasma reveiw, the video game releases in the OCG contain extra cards that don't initially come to the TCG. As I also stated there, these promo cards could come out almost anywhere in the TCG. Reshef of Destruction had 3 extra cards past the 3 we received with the game (Dark Magician Knight...
This may seem to be an odd choice, but honestly, it is one of those cards that everyone would love (and hate) should it become playable. Sixth Sense Normal Trap Announce two numbers between 1 to 6. Your opponent then rolls a dice once. If the result is equal to either one of the announced numbers, draw the same number of cards equal to the result from your deck. If not, send the same number of cards equal to the result from the top of your deck to your Graveyard. Where From: Valuable Book Promo 6 Likely TCG Appearance: Practically Never Given the popularity of Card Trooper and the ability to dump cards in the Graveyard in order to reuse them, this is a card whose only downside is that it's a Trap. Sixth Sense's usage was about as...
Another card the TCG is very eager to get its hands on. It will become the second Plant Monster (with Mystic Tomato being the first) that will see play in most decks. Dandylion Earth/Plant/3/300/300 When this card is sent to the Graveyard, Special Summon 2 "Fluffy Tokens" (Wind/Plant/1/0/0) in Defense Position. These Tokens cannot be used for a Tribute Summon during the turn they are Special Summoned. Where From: V-Jump Magazine Promos Likely TCG Appearance: Shonen Jump Magazine This card is Restricted to 1 in the OCG and for good reason. You will get 2 Tokens when it's sent to the Graveyard. While you cannot use them for Tribute Summons initially, they can be used for anything else. Plus, any that do make it to your next turn...
Well, since the first one was a hit, I figure I can throw out a few more. Don't worry, there are plenty of cards that I can choose from, almost all of which will have some interest if not outright being a strong card. For number 2, I'll be looking at a card that we will be getting later this year. It is one of the 3 Promo cards that is included in the upcoming PSP game, Tag Foce 2. Bribe of Demonic Palace Trap - Counter Negate the activation of an opponent's Spell or Trap card and destroy it. Afterwards, your opponent draws a card. Where From: Tag Force 2 Promo Likely TCG Appearance: Tag Force 2 Promo Counter Traps are on the rise again. Pulling the Rug has become a main/side deck staple for most competitive decks. Solemn...
This was an idea awhile ago. The purpose was to look at interesting cards that aren't available in the TCG. Now there's no guarentee that we will or won't get any of the cards listed in these articles. However the cards brought in here are definitely worthy of discussion. Here's the first one. It is a Weekly Jump promo card in Japan (so if we do get it, it would be a Shonen Jump promo card). Ultimate Sealed God - Exodios Dark/Spellcaster/10/?/0 This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by returning all monsters in your Graveyard to your Deck. When this card attacks, send 1 monster from your hand or Deck to the Graveyard. The ATK strength of this card is equal to the number of Normal...
Now that we've had a number of "fun" cards, let's go back to one that is a bit more competitive. Soul of Malice - Gouka Fire/Zombie/6/2200/1900 When there's a Fire attribute monster on your field, you can Special Summon this card from your hand. If it's Special Summoned this way, destroy a Fire attribute monster on your field. During your Standby Phase, Special Summon a [Fireball Token] (Fire/Pyro/1/100/100) to your field in defense mode. Tribute 1 Fire attribute monster outside of this card from your field to increase this card's ATK by 500 until end of turn. Where From: V-Jump Magazine Promos Likely TCG Appearance: Shonen Jump Magazine This card is the first Fire/Zombie ever made. It's also very useful in a variety of decks. For...
Yes, we DO take requests, and because YOU wanted to see it, here is some more Fiendish Love. Des Calibur Knight Dark/Fiend/4/1900/1800 This card cannot be Special Summoned. When the effect of an Effect Monster activates, you must Tribute this face-up card to negate that effect and destroy that monster. Where From: Valuable Book Promo 8 Likely TCG Appearance: Champion Pack / Structure Deck Ok, I'm going to stick with the most common form of the name since "Skull Descovery Knight" (it's name in WC07) just ... no. And since that likely won't be the official name of the card in the TCG... This card forms the anchor for the CyberDesGorz theme deck in the OCG (Cyber Dragon + Des Calibur Knight + Gorz) and for good reason. This monster...
Last one for now. For this one, I decided to pick a card that's been out in the OCG for awhile. It is a promo card from the Yu-Gi-Oh! R Comic Book. Since Shonen Jump has almost completed the main Yu-Gi-Oh! story arc, MAYBE they'll finally get around to doing the Yu-Gi-Oh! R Story arc (which is set after the fall of Marik in the original story arc). If they do, then the odds that the TCG will finally get this card will dramatically improve. Until then, don't hold your breath. Gorz the Emissary of Darkness Dark/Fiend/7/2700/2500 When there are no cards on your side of the field, if you take damage from a card your opponent controls, you can Special Summon this card from your hand. If you Special Summon this card successfully in...
Once again, we take only a short trip ahead to Gladiator's Assault for this card. Councilor of Shien - Enishi Light/Warrior/6/2200/1200 This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summon except by removing 2 "Six Samurai" monsters from your Graveyard from the game. Once per turn, you can destroy 1 face-up monster on the field. If this effect is activated, this card cannot declare attack during this turn. Where From: Gladiator's Assault Likely TCG Appearance: Gladiator's Assault Why yes, it does look a lot like "Chaos Sorcerer". Further, like all the "new" versions of that card, it's been toned down from the original. The stats are a little weaker, the monster is destroyed instead of removed from play...
Just because we can't get enough of Card Trooper. Card Blocker Earth/Warrior/3/400/400 When this card is successfully Normal Summoned, Flip Summoned, or Special Summoned, put it in defense mode. When a face-up monster on your field is the target of an attack, you can change the target of that attack to this card. When this card is target of attack, you can send up to the top 3 cards from your deck to Graveyard. For each card sent, increase this card's DEF by 500 until the End Phase. Where From: Limited Edition 10, Chaos Black Pack (Pack 1) Likely TCG Appearance: Shonen Jump Magazine (As some promo deal) Gee those stats and effect look vaguely familiar. So how exactly does Card Blocker stack up to big brother? Not as good, but...
Yeah, I'm on a roll here. This card is from the Limited Edition sets in Japan. Most of the Limited Edition cards that have appeared in the TCG either appeared as Shonen Jump promo cards, a few Sneak Preview cards (which later appeared in Shonen Jump), or some of the original Starter Decks. With the US receiving it's own Limited Edition set through Shonen Jump, it's possible that we may start receiving more of these cards in the future. (The 4 that we are getting in LE01 are all in fact OCG LE cards). This card is from the lastest (LE10) set. Mystic Beast King - Barbaros Earth/Beast-Warrior/8/3000/1200 This card can be Normal Summoned without sacrifice. If so, this card's original attack strength becomes 1900. If you sacrifice 3...
Another very short look ahead for this card. With the arrival of the first Premium Pack in the TCG, we finally gain access to some of the most sought after cards for players and collectors alike. While Marshmallon might be stealing the majority of the thunder for this set (and rightfully so), the card we're looking at here is perhaps one of the hidden gems of the set. Gemini Imps Dark/Fiend/4/1000/1000 Whenever your opponent activates an effect that includes having you discard from your hand, you may discard this card from your hand to the Graveyard to negate the activation and destroy the card. Then, draw 1 card from your deck. Where From: Premium Pack 6 (OCG) TCG Appearance: Premium Pack 1 (TCG) This card is potentially even...
Ok, Armityle might have been included with a little tongue in cheek factor, but honestly The Sacred Beasts really get no love. Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder might be garnering a little more attention these days because of his synergy with the Crystal Beasts, but in general the Sacred Beasts have been largely ignored. Originally viewed as the playable "God Cards" (at least in theory), they failed to capture any semblence of the original 3 Legendary cards (though to be honest, the effects the God Cards were given in the various video games were anything but gamebreaking). Enter this special 3-Pack review. Dark Dreadroute Dark/Fiend/10/4000/4000 This card cannot be Special Summoned. This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set except...
We're going only 1 month ahead for this card. It is the first of it's kind in the TCG, though the effect is a modified twist on a familiar card. Frost and Flame Dragon Water/Dragon/6/2300/2000 This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by removing from play 1 FIRE and 2 WATER monsters from your Graveyard. Once per turn, you can discard 1 card to destroy 1 monster on the field. Where From: Tactical Evolution TCG Appearance: Tactical Evolution Here's what makes this card a first of it's kind: It is the very first Water/Dragon in the game. Past that though, it's yet another variation of "Chaos Sorcerer". For starters, the stats are identical. Second, it requires opposite Attributes...
This card was released in the same Variable Book Promo set as Sealed Gold Coffer. As such there's no idea when it may come to the TCG. Necroface Dark/Zombie/4/1200/1800 When this card is Normal Summoned successfully, return all cards that were removed from play back to the owner's Deck, and then shuffle your Deck. The ATK of this card increases by 100 points for each card that was returned by this effect. If this card is removed from play, both players remove from play the top 5 cards from their respective Decks. Where From: Valuable Book Promo 9 Likely TCG Appearance: Champion Pack / Structure Deck You have 2 ways you can play this card. Remove from play as many cards as possible in order to Normal Summon Necroface and create a...
We're only taking a short look ahead with this card. It's featured in the forthcoming set Gladiator's Assault which, if the TCG follows the same turnaround as the OCG, should be available in October 07. I will likely get to other GLAS cards, but this should make a nice teaser for some of the things in the set. Dark Fusion Normal Spell Choose from your hand and/or field monsters required for a Fusion monster and send them to Graveyard, Special Summon a Fiend type Fusion monster from Fusion deck. The monster Special Summoned by this card cannot be target or be affected by the effect of opponent's Spell, Trap, and monster effect during this turn. (This Special Summon is treated as a Fusion Summon.) Where From: Gladiator's Assault...
