Bait Doll question...

Yes, you can use "Bait Doll" on your own cards.

No, it would not work for the two cards you mentioned, because it forces them to flip face-up. Since neither card can be 'legally' activated (flipped face-up), it is considered an illegal activation and the cards are destroyed while face-up, so neither will get their effects.

I know exactly how those cards work. I used to run both of them quite often.

They ONLY activate in the Graveyard if they were destroyed while FACE DOWN.

They will never activate anywhere if they are destroyed while face-up.

Bait Doll DOES activate the effects of Dark Coffin and Statue of the Wicked. What happens:

Step 1: Bait Doll activates and targets the cards
Step 2: Bait Doll checks which type of cards they are (Trap)
Step 3: Bait Doll tries to activate them (they can't)
Step 4: Illegal activation: they are destructed by Bait Doll
Step 5: Their effects activate.
See my signature about Bait Doll, I've included an example in the review.

EDIT: oops, nevermind

Given the text of Bait Doll, trap cards are destroyed while face-up
Force the activation of 1 face-down Trap Card. If the timing of the activation of the Trap Card is incorrect, negate the effect and destroy it. If it is not a Trap Card, it is returned to its original position. After this card is activated, it is placed into the Deck (not the Graveyard). Then shuffle the Deck.

So if it IS a trap card while face-up the cards are destroyed, so Statue of the Wicked and Dark Coffin won't work with Bait Doll.

I know we've figured things out, but I don't think that the activation of Statue of the Wicked or Dark Coffin would be classified as illegal. They would be activated, have no cost, have no conditinoal requirement, so would "resolve" by doing nothing and then go to the graveyard. At that point, each individual effect would say "Hey, were you destroyed while face down?" And it would respond to itself "No, I got baited out...bummer" and that would be that.

I know its moot to say that the effect won't trigger, but it is valuable to point out that the activation of those two cards was not illegal by any means.

The key piece of information here is how and when the cards are destroyed by Bait Doll.

They're flipped face up to see if their activation is legal. Since Dark Coffin and Statue of the Wicked miss your timing to activate due to having no point of activation while on the field, they're destroyed. As a result, they're destroyed face up and will not activate and resolve in the Graveyard..

LOL I figured that already out, after a short while. Don't punch me for that ;)

I'm using Bait Doll a lot at the moment - very cunning trap clearance, or gives you a glimpse of their set Spell Cards...

Question:
If Bait Doll targets a Dust Tornado set the previous turn, and the opponent chains it to Bait Doll what happens...

Bait Doll --> Dust Tornado

Resolve:
1. Dust Tornado resolves destroying Bait Doll. As we know cards remain on the field until the chain has completely resolved, or the card is destroyed in the middle of the chain. So Bait Doll goes to the Graveyard.

2. Bait Doll resolves.

So does Bait Doll get shuffled into my deck from the Graveyard? I would rule 'yes' as the effect does not specify where the card has to be in order to be shuffled into my deck...

No. While I cannot say I entirely understand it, apparently Konami has decided that Bait Doll must properly resolve in order to be shuffled back into the deck. So if it is destroyed before resolution, it cannot go back in. Which sort of makes sense, and sort of doesn't.

Bait Doll could even be used to stop yourself from decking out, just keeping using it on a face-down spell (probably from your field), and since its not a trap, BD won't destroy it, and go back into the deck. I think that works.
