a real catch 22 do you think?
walmart target etc must be by far the biggest upperdeck sellers - yet they do nothing to support the games- they are TCG's right?-no tourneys..free play - sponsorship for teams - nothing...yet to keep max profits ude sticks it to the hobby shops that support player, tourneys, even come in hang & play
these places arent exactly raking in the bucks and they loose huge (for them) sales volume only to have people come in and use the stuff bought at superstores - that's gotta irk
its one thing to try to buy cyberdragon/e hero tins at hobby store( they could only get 2 boxes of them) and they sell out - and go to target and there are dozens and dozend of each...if you wonder how a seemingly healthy thriving game can die out - this is it - the places to play cease to exist so no one spends the $ anymore - anywhere...walmart and target dont seem to get/care that they depend on hobby store to fuel their sales...they just ride the wave of cash until they cause the game to collapse
upperdeck is damned if they do and damneed if they dont...
gee - do you think they would put out the light structure deck in hobby stores only????if you look on ebay you see most of the parallel hobbyleague cards... sold i'm sure to help make ends meet.....a catch 22 to be sure....nuff sed
That's not entirely true. The Walmart where I live near used to have Tourney's at their Store for almost 2 years, and it was mostly the "players" that didnt come out to support it. Admittedly, the place we were given to play at wasn't the best, but it was better than nothing.
If you want something to happen, it isnt going to happen just by "wanting" it to. You have to be proactive in making it happen. Walmart only sells Yugioh just like they sell candy bars and cigarettes. People that want the product buy it. They don't advertise it because it's basically a "everyday" item that either sells itself, or it doesn't. Even UDE doesnt do much advertising of its own products, and I'm talking about their other lines of TCG Cards. Where are the VS, WoW, and Avatar the Airbender Commercials??
So, if you want Walmart (or Target) to do something in your local area, ASK!!! The worst thing that can happen is they say no. But if they say yes, be prepared to step in and make it happen, as they are ONLY going to do the bare minimum, and that will most likely only be giving you a place to play, so you will have to provide a Tournament Organizer and Judge, Prize Support (if any), and any advertising about the event may or may not be something they help with.
Problems only stay problems when you don't try to solve them.
As well as PLAYERS don't do enough to keep the game going. How many new people do YOU try to bring to the game a month? The game is only going to survive by word of mouth since we already know that UDE and Konami are terrible at advertising it. If we as players don't support the places that do make time for us to play at, then yes, they will die. When you start seeing the local Hobby Store that USED to have 25-30 players a week, drop to 10-15, that means you have to do something to bring up the numbers. Don't blame UDE.
People are still filling up Baseball and Football Stadiums even though the price of a ticket goes up nearly every year. The interest is there, and people talk sports no matter where they are. How much do you talk about Yugioh on a daily basis?
If you want to complain, at least do all you can for the game while you do it.
