we emailed a seller from ebay asking if/when the ston special edition packs our boys ordered would be shipped...we wondered since a few people were finding them in stores... the reply we got was that upperdeck made an agreement with walmart to have all hobby shop releases held until early april so walmart would have exclusive sales for a month ahead of everyone else...did walmart & upperdeck reall shaft the little guys????? as if they dont already have a tough time making ends meet...we are down to one place to duel local and next closest is35 mi away....
spacecoast fla isn't exactly the sticks and yet shops keep closing 'cause they cant make ends meet... if we have nowhere to play what does upperdeck think will happen to their sales in the future????? is walmart gonna set up gaming areas in the store for us ???? run hobby leagues??? i think not.....is this confirmed by anyone else??? or is this seller just putting us off???

I heard the same thing, I got a refund from the seller I preordered from in hopes that I might be able to get some blister packs before this weekend and the SJC. It doesn't look like it though, they still don't have them around my area. Apparently many Wal-Marts and Targets have them though, and some retail shops do, but most all other markets won't be getting them until April 5th, is what the retailer told me, and he willingly offered me a refund. If this is actually UDE's business practices though, I'm really, really displeased at this.

a real catch 22 do you think?
walmart target etc must be by far the biggest upperdeck sellers - yet they do nothing to support the games- they are TCG's right?-no tourneys..free play - sponsorship for teams - nothing...yet to keep max profits ude sticks it to the hobby shops that support player, tourneys, even come in hang & play
these places arent exactly raking in the bucks and they loose huge (for them) sales volume only to have people come in and use the stuff bought at superstores - that's gotta irk
its one thing to try to buy cyberdragon/e hero tins at hobby store( they could only get 2 boxes of them) and they sell out - and go to target and there are dozens and dozend of each...if you wonder how a seemingly healthy thriving game can die out - this is it - the places to play cease to exist so no one spends the $ anymore - anywhere...walmart and target dont seem to get/care that they depend on hobby store to fuel their sales...they just ride the wave of cash until they cause the game to collapse
upperdeck is damned if they do and damneed if they dont...
gee - do you think they would put out the light structure deck in hobby stores only????if you look on ebay you see most of the parallel hobbyleague cards... sold i'm sure to help make ends meet.....a catch 22 to be sure....nuff sed

I'm sad about the whole deck deal, and probably future structure deals as it doesn't look to good, and I'm big on the fairy type, so obviously you anger the fairy people when you hold your fairy deck from them =P.

Anyway, secret rares... You really have to decide which ones you actually want. After reviewing them, the only one I would go out of my way for would be "Harvest, Angel of Wisdom". Well, we can call it luck or fate, but the 1st STON pack I opened that had a chance of having it had it, so obviously that made my day, and everyone at the league's =D.

That's not entirely true. The Walmart where I live near used to have Tourney's at their Store for almost 2 years, and it was mostly the "players" that didnt come out to support it. Admittedly, the place we were given to play at wasn't the best, but it was better than nothing.

If you want something to happen, it isnt going to happen just by "wanting" it to. You have to be proactive in making it happen. Walmart only sells Yugioh just like they sell candy bars and cigarettes. People that want the product buy it. They don't advertise it because it's basically a "everyday" item that either sells itself, or it doesn't. Even UDE doesnt do much advertising of its own products, and I'm talking about their other lines of TCG Cards. Where are the VS, WoW, and Avatar the Airbender Commercials??

So, if you want Walmart (or Target) to do something in your local area, ASK!!! The worst thing that can happen is they say no. But if they say yes, be prepared to step in and make it happen, as they are ONLY going to do the bare minimum, and that will most likely only be giving you a place to play, so you will have to provide a Tournament Organizer and Judge, Prize Support (if any), and any advertising about the event may or may not be something they help with.

Problems only stay problems when you don't try to solve them.

As well as PLAYERS don't do enough to keep the game going. How many new people do YOU try to bring to the game a month? The game is only going to survive by word of mouth since we already know that UDE and Konami are terrible at advertising it. If we as players don't support the places that do make time for us to play at, then yes, they will die. When you start seeing the local Hobby Store that USED to have 25-30 players a week, drop to 10-15, that means you have to do something to bring up the numbers. Don't blame UDE.

People are still filling up Baseball and Football Stadiums even though the price of a ticket goes up nearly every year. The interest is there, and people talk sports no matter where they are. How much do you talk about Yugioh on a daily basis?

If you want to complain, at least do all you can for the game while you do it.

I must say that I side with the hobby shops as well. The hobby shops don't NEED to be asked to put on tournaments, they're in the business (unlike Wal-Mart or Target) and already understand and appreciate the value of supporting play. Hobby stores have made the effort, they deserve first shot. It's difficult enough for the hobby shops to keep their doors open without having to compete with the be retailers as it is without giving them product first....this doesn't sit well with me either if it indeed is true.

Our shop can't get the STON Blisters (Yet). There is a local Hobby Store (a large conglomerate of shops) that does have them, I don't know if it is because they are so big, or they bought a box at Wally World and are re-selling them (they do cast $1.50 more than Wally). But it is not just with the cards that the little guys get the shaft. The Shonen Jumps go to the Big Boys weeks before they hit the Magazine Stores (a lot of which are Hobby Stores). The "idea" behind it I am told is that they cannot sell cards/Mags until their official release. Well, Why not, if you can get them down the street? I let my tourney guys know..Hey, don't bother going out and buying all these cards from Wally World, they aren't legal until they get here (unless, of course, an order gets messed up and they don't arrive by the next tournament after the official release date, then its on the store owner.)
