Card Trooper vs Banisher of Radiance

If Banisher of Radiance is on the field, can I still use Card Trooper's effect to send cards to the grave to pump it up, even though those cards go out of play?

No, that's right. I'm not sure where the confusion is coming from.

A cost is paid upon activation of the card. You HAVE to do EVERYTHING in the cost EXACTLY, otherwise you can't even activate the card.

The effect happens during resolution of the card. The general rule of thumb is that you do as much of the effect as possible, and it doesn't matter if an effect says "send the card to the Graveyard" but another effect is active that removes it from play instead. The card is removed from play instead. You're just resolving the effect to the best of your abilities.

For Abyss Soldier, the discard is a cost. You must discard 1 WATER monster from your hand to the Graveyard when you activate this effect. The returning of the card on the field to the hand is the effect. If there was a card effect in play that said any cards returned to the hand get sent to the Graveyard instead, that's fine. The card Abyss Soldier returns to the hand would simply go to the Graveyard instead.

The entire text of Advanced Ritual Art is the effect. There is no cost. Everything that is written happens when you resolve the card. And you resolve it to the best of your abilities.

And there's no such thing as a "fizzling" effect. It's either there or it disappears.

jeez...cranky? :D even tho' "fizzle" is not "game terminology" it would apply conversationally , so to speak, would it not? after all fizzle, by definition is a "failure" or "to end in failure" so wouldn't an effect that dissappears also be said to fizzle? :p

Who defines "fizzle" as "ends in failure"? I define it as a hissing or sputtering noise. To me, "fizzle" means it still exists, but is just not doing anything at the moment.

Conversationally speaking, what's wrong with saying the effect disappears? It's just as easy to say, with the bonus of it being entirely accurate.

Yes, I like to be proper when it comes to things like this. It's the difference between "throw a few cards at the Graveyard" and "discard 2 cards from your hand". In a game like this, any consistencies we have really should be adhered to.

LOL
i'll have you know , i hear every card in my deck that has an effect which dissappears, spit and sputter when it fails to resolve. i love the audio personally and cant wait for the new scratch and sniff cards to come out.... :D

There is no official ruling. Depending on who you have as a head judge at your regional the ruling may or may not be the same as one you get at a different regional. You should ask the head judge before hand how they would rule it so you know for the duration of the event.
