Des Wombat VS Ceasefire

Yes, as Des Wombat's effect is applied as soon as it is face-up, and Ceasefire is trying to inflict damage, but Des Wombat says "No" and reduces the damage to 0.

Are you certain about that? When there is a face down Jinzo on the field and Ceasefire is activated Ceasefire resolves and inflicts effect damage. (If I'm remembering the ruling correctly...please correct me if I'm wrong) With that in mind it would stand to reason that Des Wombat's continuous effect would not become active until after the resolution of Ceasefire.

The mechanic is correct in its logic.

however, as a nitpick i wouldn't use the word "activate" as it would seem "active" would be more accurate.

"activate" implies a chain point from a mechanical point of view. So replace "activate" with "active" and its perfect.

But there are continuous trap cards that activate that don't use the chain too. You know the lot of them, no need to relist them (again).
Clarification. Why? because it alludes to the point Dillio was getting at.

All Continuous Trap Card's require activation, and that always uses the chain.

But those that have Manually Activated effects or Triggers, require a seperate chain (afterwords) to be activated and resolve in.

It is a very important point, and illustrates why the word "activate" should never be used for continuous effects.

Cards and Manual or Triggered Effects "activate.

Continuous Effects never "activate" they are/become "active" as soon as the card that generates them resolves into play face-up. That includes Monsters and Spell/Traps.

Perhaps it is a little clearer that way yet everyone I know still uses the term "activate" to describe everything. Kinda like the way "Level" is used for more than a half-dozen things in AD&D.

Well, but Jinzo's effect doesn't become active until Ceasefire is resolving, so it can't negate the effect of Ceasefire. However, Des Wombat doesn't reduce damage to 0 until after the effect resolves, so it would seem that Des Wombat would reduce the damage to 0.
If the effect of Ceasefire has resolved then the damage has already been inflicted, Des Wombat can't affect damage inflicted before his effect came into play.
