Disturbing "item" on eBay ...

I'm still confused as to what he can offer someone who can't already gain the same knowledge just by reading Metagame's SJC event coverage and daily articles for free...

Its the same principle as the usual "Get rich quick" scheme's.

"Act now for my Special Offer of just half off the suggested price of $60 Consultation Fee, and I guarantee that one of us will definitely be that much more enriched AND knowledgeable!!"

How very season-one-Kaiba of you. Destroy all copies of a card so you have the only set... ;)

Watch out, next thing you know, you'll be talking to a golden eyeball...
Are you suggesting I currently don't? Me and my Firegrass trio will CONQUER THE WORLD!

And I'm sure these "Get Rich Quick!" schemes sold on eBay is simply the advice: "Put this same offer up on eBay." Blindingly obvious, but some people will fall for it.

It does seem the poor boy has let his ego carry him away.

At least he does seem to have the Yugi Moto hair thing going, though. Maybe that helps? :D

I think that one who has to sell his (or her) time on eBay is a very sad person indeed. I don't wish to be mean to anyone, but if I had to go so low as to sell my time on eBay i really have hit rock bottom. In my true opinion, I dislike eBay very much because it can be great some times, but it is also vulgar and teaches children (ones who don't know any better) idiotic ideas and in truth, teaches them that it's ok do do things like sell your viginity online.

One more thing, you guys are like, way off topic.

It is not like he even needed to sell his time to gain money to begin with. From what I understand, he is still in highschool and does not have a job, yet he was able to have his rich parents fly him out to a SJ and stay in a hotel. I think by seeing the champion act in this manner has sealed the deal of how disgusting this game really is. How unfair it really is. And lastly just how disappointing it is to see "champions" doing it for the money and not the glory and fun of just dueling.

Because obviously parents all the time send their children who live a couple of states away alone to some card game tourney, who has no job or and income of their own. He is rich or at least above middle class. He honestly does not need to be selling on eBay to get money.

There is also this thing called a savings. Some parents will save money for their kid to do something, if he's good enough to return on it. One laptop computer would havew been good enough for me to want to send my kid back, evn if I didn't like the game. Aside from that, if this kid is under 18, then they didn't send him anywhere alone.

I can agree to your point in general here. I quit watching professional sports for the most part about 15 years ago. They've pretty much stopped being a sport and have become a "show"

Do I blame some kid for selling a laptop on e-bay? No, not anymore than I blame someone for playing CC. It's not MY style mind you but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be someone else's. As far as kids with rich parents....that's the nature of parents, to want to be able to give their kids things and opportunities that they never had. If you're well to do, why not? The money will be spent somewhere, it's just as well that they spend it on giving their child chances to shine.

For the grand majority of things we don't agree with or the things that make us mad, we're likely not going to change people, we CAN, however, change how we deal with them. I guess I'm not going to lose too much sleep over it. I'm not going to change people selling things on e-bay, I'm not going to stop people spending too much time playing video games, etc. etc.....I'm also not going to waste too much time debating it when I can be out having fun myself! That would be a complete waste of time and say little about how much I value that time.

EDIT: You beat me to it John, but Im going to post it anyway!!! lol

That's besides the point. Where is it written that someone cant be well off and still enjoy playing a Sport or Game, and if being rich gives them an advantage, why should we care? It's certainly not their fault that they can afford to get cards they want or need. Should well off people handicap themselves to a spending limit just because there are more people that cant spend the same way?

There will always be "haves and have nots". Even in Professional Sports, you have players that make 10's of millions over players that make hundreds of thousands. Is it unfair that parody exist? Maybe..., but when you are the beneficiary of it, does it matter to you?

If I were to win a 200 million dollar lottery, should I stop playing Yugioh because I can now buy hundreds of boxes and singles of any card I want? That would be ridiculous! Money doesnt equate to skill. It certainly helps to be able to have the card to practice with, but you can do the same thing with YVD.

Advantage can be found anywhere you look for it, whether its having all 1st Editions or all Holo's in your Deck (which could intimidate your opponent), or you are just an incredible player.

You cant hate people just because they have the opportunity to be better, even if they arent, or because they have great parents that will bend over backwards for their kids, spoiled or not. Dont we all wish we had parents like that when we were growing up? Who personally wished that they had Parents that ignored that they were alive, and couldnt care less what or how they lived?

I cerainly don't feel envious of the rich kids with the big colections and prize cards. With the right finagling on ebay and online resources, I oculd make my binder bling that way too. I've seen it done. It's just a little too time consuming for me. I usually just shoot for what I need and spend little money to do it.

It is eBay so I can see how selling anything is possible. I have no problem with someone selling a laptop on eBay. However, I do place the blame on every player who plays CC on how bad the game is today. The only reason to play now is essentially to be like Emon. Get a nice laptop, get a new card that you can make thousands off of. The only way anyone can even do that is to have some vast amount of money and resources avaliable to them. Is a black urban youth going to win a SJC without the same money and resources presented to say a upper middle class white youth? Probably not.... This game comes down to who has the most money. The more money you have the better cards you will have. The better cards you have the better chance you have at winning.

Now I could handle not getting upset at Emon for selling his Shrink card. He is doing what everyone else has done when they won with their CC Deck, acting like they did it on their own power and what not. I could even accept the fact that at least his parents gave him some money to get that Deck up to snuff, as unfair as that is. I however cannot accept the selling of one's "time" in some scheme to make a profit off something anyone who is a: noob, newb, professional, medicore, average, accomplished, good, young, old, etc... type of player in this game could have done just as well. But alas, that is America at its best. Selling the dream for your own personal gain. So am I believe that the only reason to play YGO is to get that fancy laptop and cool card I could sell for thousands?

All this does is tell people that you should have this goal in your mind when doing a SJC or a regional and so on. Having fun means winning at all cost in order to sell out for big bucks.

Now I'm confused. You seem to say the problem with the game is that everybody plays Cookie Cutter. But then you say in the same paragraph that the only way to be a good player is to have more expensive cards. How can it be both?
