Divine Wrath and Raging Flame Sprite

I was not asking the Judges about when you can chain and the whole continuous/trigger thing. I was asking them to clarify the 'must deal at least 1 point of damage' thing with reguards to 'Raging Flame Sprite's' second effect of increasing her ATK.

We know you can complete a successful attack without dealing any damage. And her card text states "each time this card successfully attacks directly".

That's all I'm trying to clear up.

Ah...sorry i misunderstood.

You must deal at least 1 point Battle Damage to the Opponent's Life Points.

The term succesful in this case is refering to both a complete attack as well as one that actually deals Battle Damage to Life Points.

"If "Raging Flame Sprite" is equipped with "Twin Swords of Flashing Light - Tryce", its ATK will increase by 1000 points after each successful attack ("Raging Flame Sprite" must still deal at least 1 point of damage with each attack for its effect to apply). So the second attack will be with +1000 ATK, and it will gain another +1000 ATK after the completion of the second attack.[/b]"

There you go...

Not to be nitpicky, but....

'Spirit Reaper' says must attack the opponent's life points directly, not attack directly.

If 'Raging Flame Sprite' said "attack life points directly" there wouldn't be ANY argument, but it only says "attacks directly". And we know you can have a successful attack without dealing any damage, so....

That is what I want clarified.

As far as i can see, when dealing with Monster Effects the "Each time [this event] occurs, do this" template is a Continuous/Trigger templating. There is no need for the Judge's List on this...there are alot of examples to compare to. Its effect is Continuous for sure.

I know, I know, saying Continuous and Trigger together is an oxymoron but, it is an easy way of saying that it is not chainable, but it is still event-driven and applies only after the [said] event occurs.

Skilled Dark (White) Magician, Magical Marionette and others all follow the same pattern and rules. Unfortunately, in the wisdon that is Konami/UDE, there are exceptions and lack of consistancy.

A quick look at Robbin' Goblin for instance, will show you that it is Triggered and chainable and uses the "Each time" templating. That is even the errata'd one as well...which is just sloppy...
novastar, since you've studied template and patterns, why don't you write an article about it. I think this will be very informative article on how to tell if an effect is continuous, trigger, multi-trigger, etc. just by reading the text. I know there will be some exceptions to the rule, but if you include them too, then all of us in the community will learn how you distinguish one effect to another. In short, GIVE US YOUR SECRET! hehehe :)

Well you are in luck... there will be something(s) of a comprehensive nature from me in the future, something that will include all cards that have an effect. Im currently working on card references.

I will also work on effect templating and how to go about distinguishing one from another as well...since you requested it.

Some of the older text is just horrendous though and can be really tough to discern.

btw, i answered your question...i posted it above, it's a ruling right from the FAQ ;).
I know, I saw it..I'm trying to ignore it and hope it 'disappears'...:p

I read that about the 'Twin Swords Tryce' thing and even included it in my question to the Judges list.

I was just hoping that since the text was ever soooooo slightly different it would illecit a different ruling...yeah right....

*sigh*..turns in judge's card...gives back MANTIS cd...*sigh*

hmm just wondering since attacking directly is optional / trigger can u chain devine wrath?
Raging Flame Sprite
Effect Monster (Pyro / FIRE / 3 Stars / ATK 100 / DEF 200)

This card can attack your opponent's Life Points directly. Each time this card successfully attacks directly, increase the ATK of this card by 1000 points.

No, as stated above: Raging Flame Sprite's both effect is a Countinuous Effect.
