It seems like there was some brief pain. She seemed to wince a bit once she jumped into the fire, but then again, that could have been her looking around and trying to focus.
I got the impression she was adapting to the smoke inhalation.
I'm a little worried that they are going too overboard with the destiny thing. I like how they're slowly coming together, and I like how they are linking the characters in odd ways (the "fly boy" that is the nurse to the fortune telling artists girlfriend type thing) but did you see the previews for next week? There's a comic book about Hiro already out? Unless its done by the art guy, I'm afraid they may be makeing too much destiny in the mix and that can start to get dull if you ask me.
If the guy has no other job but painting, then it's a good bet he would have to do something like comic work to facilitate a place to live. Or it could be another guy, altogether.
I don't know if anyone caught this. But did anyone notice how they spoiled the premier, but nto the series as a whole? Generally, when you see that many cool clips piled together in a bunch of previews, it's a long drawn process before we ever get around to seeing any of it. But we got to see all of it in the premier. Which means, we can only speculate on the rest of the series.
I don't know about you, but I think that's a good thing. I mean, even with all the spoiler previews, we really had no idea how the overall plot was going to come together. Even with all those cools scenes, it could have been strung together really badly. But the plot was engaging even though we knew a handful of scenes, and they still managed to totally head fake us with the ending. It was actually a very satisfying premier.
Just a side note. I noticed they re-edited the painter scene where his girlfriend comes to see him. In the actual episode, he shows here a picture of the burning bus, then the newspaper pic of the same incident and the she puts here hand over her mouth, In the trailers, he shows here the picture of the bus, then the paper, but she tries to rationalize it for a second. Then he shows her a picture he painted that morning of her walking in through the front door in the exact same dress, boots and hairstyle she's in now.
Then she puts her hand over her mouth. Thinking it over, that was probably a wise edit, not just in the way of time compression.
It's a little thing, but little things like that impress me. It shows me that they are paying attention to detail.
