when you say no timing issue for Karma Cut does that mean it can be activated in the damage step or only as far as selection of a target!!!

Most all trap cards activate during the battle phase. There are a few that specifically require being activated during the damage phase- Karma Cut is not one of those that can be activated in the damage calculation step.

yes well i should of known that but there arnt many cards that i've seen which doesn't state that it can be activated it the damage step even though they can!!!

The general rule you can use to determin what cards can be activated in Damage Step include:
Counter Traps
Cards that specifially modify ATK/DEF
Card with specific timing. (Nutrient Z, Rope of Life)

If any card is an exception to these three rules it will say so in the card's rulings.

Apparently, from what I've heard (I have not seen any official confirmation of this), "Michizure" is not able to activated when a card is sent to the Graveyard in battle even though it specifies the timing of "when a monster on your side of the field is sent to the Graveyard."

Personally, I don't believe it, but who knows. Anyone got documentation on this one?

That's actually an old one. Helpeopmer316 has an article (written by Magician Noir I believe) about this in the Netrep Articles section.

Michizure cannot be activated in the Damage step for the four reason I posted above. It's not a Counter, it doesn't modify ATK/DEF, it doesn't have timing that like "destroyed as a result of battle" or "at the end of the Damage Step" and there is no ruling labeling it an exception.

The reason there is no documaentation is because "When a monster is sent to the Graveyard" does not grant a card special ability to activate in the Damage Step, if one of the four reasons above does not apply.

Disclaimer: I KNOW NOT TO USE GAMES FOR RULINGS

Ok, now that that is out of the way, I find it very interesting that YuGiOh Online does indeed allow Michizure to be activated during the Damage Step when a monster is destroyed in battle. Programming glitch or the way Konami thinks the card should be played?

The fact remains, and always will in this game, that you use game mechanics first....there will always be, however, a 100 or so cards that defy the game mechanics.

The game of Yugioh never has and likely never will be an easy one to learn all the rules. That's good and bad. It's bad because it makes it difficult to learn the game well and easily, it's also bad because it makes the game very difficult to judge well. It's good because it enables those who are willing to put the time and effort to do their homework to take advantage of the little loopholes created by cards that squirm around the game mechanics.

You realize that "Chthonian Blast" has the exact same wording and CAN be activated in the Damage Step, right?
No, they don't. Michizure first of all says "sent" and nothing about destroy. Sent will cover any action that happens to a monster to go from the field to the graveyard.

Chthonian Blast has "destroyed and sent" in its card text. This makes the card squeeze into the Damage Step for that reason. Chthonian Blast doesn't work with cards that "Send" or "Tribute" a monster to the Graveyard like Michizure does. It requires the monster to be destroyed in battle or by a card effect.

So they don't work at all the same.

You do realize that Chthonian Blast falls into one of the four categroies mentioned above, right? It has a ruling that lables it an exception.

Like I said, it either has to be (1) a Counter Trap, (2) an ATK/DEF modifier, (3) a card with proper timing, (4) or card with a ruling making it an exception. Chthonian Blast falls under 4, Michizure does not fall under any of these.
