New Netrep site look

I gotta admit, I dont like it. but asthetics isn't what drives me. It's "functionality". I'm just glad to be able to type something in and press "ENTER" again!! I always hated having to press a button with my mouse when "enter" seemed so much more clean and efficient.

Whah! Functional.. ok. But this is TOO simple.
What I like about it, is the functionality.
But what I dislike, are the looks.
Greetings,

Yeah, I agree. I almost thought I had a broken link when I went to it. It looks like it may still be under construction, so I would say it's still a work in progress, and may yet be improved.

But again, I am just relieved to just be able to "enter" again. It was rather annoying to have to keep remembering that it didnt work like that.

Well, lets look at the significant diferences between the new registry and the old site:
  1. Yes, I think we all appreciate the enter key ability. So well move on.
  2. We can now read the entire name of an card set in the listings, whereas before, if you weren't familiar with the full name of a card set, then you couldn't read it as it was partially cut off in the drop down menu
  3. You can now search for a word in the descriptions of cards across theboard. Before you caold not search for a word in both monster card texts and spell card texts at the same time. Now you can do all three.
  4. Result window now shows what kind of card is being listed, whether it is a Spell or a Monster Card. The old results window just showed the name and the set.
  5. Results window also shpws the stats of a card if it's a monster card. I for onw like that simplicity.
  6. Card sets drop down and list all the cards in the set in both frames. Much better than the old window that used to open and close.
The only thing I did just notice was you stll cant use the back button (or foward function) to scroll thriugh windows you've already loaded, butI guess can live with that. The look of the site is proffessional though. I have no complaints on the asthetics.

I think you only restated what everyone else already has figured out. Looks dont matter. Functionality is what counts. If we can use the site better, who cares how it looks.

You didnt really have to list all the new do-dads.

What I meant was as far as saying that you can see more of things we could only see parts of.

Those are really more asthetically pleasing aspects of the new site, and add to the new functionality.

I picked the "ENTER" as the best part because it brings more fluidity to what you are doing since you are already "typing", why wouldnt it make sense to finish with a "ENTER"?

Knowing what change comes from playing with the new toys. But of course, having a list to check it against is okay as well.

what the heck are you guys talking about?

the Aqua / White is way better than the Black / Metal look.

the layout, is very good, very well put together for that matter.

If you've worked on PHP, Html, ASP, etc.. sites, then you know how hard it is to come up with stuff sometimes, and the way the site looks is just good.

I like it. Its simple but complex.

Its both easy and hard.

really.. I like it. its very well done.

I miss having the cards listed in Alphabetical order, let alone a lot of the other search options that are missing. It is, ok.

I think they you are still supposed to able to list them alphabetically. I just don't know if it's not enabled right now, or if my computer is too old to run the script, but you'll notice that the sub headings:"Id" "Name" "Stats" "Rarity" are all clickable and should sort the sets alphabetical/numericaly by whichever one you click on.

Also the double arrows directly to the left of the word "Name Contains" open a really cool drop down section that has all the card specific functions search features of the old site, but this time you cansearch each typ at the same time.

I guess maybe it slipped right past people, but anyone that's used RONINâ„¢ knows exactly what the new site was designed around.

Don't like the white/blue? Take it up with Konami. It's their colors. I merely picked out the images. It's a lot more user friendly than the old site and a huge step in raising that bar of excellence yet again beyond what anyone has ever been able to accomplish in the past.

However "“ and here's the important part, don't miss it "“ if you don't like it, grab the API and write your own web interface for a Yugioh Card Registry. Don't like RONINâ„¢? Grab the API and write your own application. After all, that's what the site is really all about, right?

<smiles /> Indeed. I haven't had a chance to test hte API yet, but I'm definitely going to use it in conjuntion with the Lair to make the fiendish archives easier to get at.

Well done on all points! The DHTML interface is quite nice, especially with the advanced search options? Do I detect a hint of AJAX in there when the page loads the images?

The only thing I've noticed to this point is that my scroll wheel won't work when I pull up a card registry entry in Firefox, although the scroll wheel works fine in the sets section of things!

Serious props to DaAmazing1 for putting this all together! You REALLY deserve a pat on the back for this!

Right!!!
We can't please everyone and if there is something you don't like then I suggest you request for a username/password and make your own version of the registry. You can be as imaginative as you want to be with your own version. We provided you access to our KILLER YU-GI-OH database, images, rulings... and you can do whatever you want with it from that point. Plus you know that our data is 100% accurate all the time.

If you have a forum of your own, now you can have your own auto-card linking, have a site and want a card registry we are giving you everything you need for it. I'll even put your site on the netrep site under the movers & shakers, that will bring in a bunch of hits to your site.

I'm just surprised that everyone here seems so hard up on graphically enhanced websites.

1. Graphics aren't everything, and there is such thing as way too much. It clutters things up and makes everything look too unprofessional.

2. The content is what matters most in a website, not it's graphics. Sure you want it to look presentable, but you don't want to go overboard either by adding a flash every two lines of text, that just really ticks off the 56K users... trust me, I'd know.

3. It's not always that simple. I'm a fan of simple designs myself, I hate graphically enhanced pages, I feel their way too cluttered and it tends to enclose the content to a space that it just doesn't fit. A good example of this would be Pojo's website, all the advertisement images and such just clutter it up and the content is constrained to only the center portion of the website. As a former web designer myself, I can tell you, that that's not a great design.

Overall I like the new design, it fits our purposes perfectly and it presents Netrep and Empyre Group as a professional organization and a place for fun and games, something that many other people try not to do.

Would you say that Metagame's website was too simple? It's got a sleek professional look and focuses more on the content. If anything the coding and functionality of the new site itself should impress a lot individuals, it's stuff I could have never pulled off and stuff that when you get down to it, you don't see everyday. Props to Alex for everything!

And that, my friends, is what I'm talking about in a nutshell! I'm more than happy with the new tools of the trade. I dont need a pretty picture in the background to get in the way of what I'm really trying to do, which is get card info.

It was more or less a shock to see the page from it's last incarnation to this new one. Again, you dont have to please me with looks, as long as I can search must faster and easier.
