Parents at YuGiOh Events

no I help them save money because then they wont go to another and wont be buying anymore cards.

come on... jezz.

oo, and its funny the parent that think im cheeting, First we start the game and I no longer talk, I just play.

Basically when you play against me, ill be like "Summon, is it legal?" > "Effect, Responce" > "Next phase, Responce" etc.. etc..

once I win I say,

"You put your kid in a guillotine when you said "Your cheeting." Now the kid doesn't understand how he lost and you will keep spending more money on the game. Good luck in trying to get him out of it now"

I once beat a kid with the DMOC OTK, and all did when I won was "Sign here please, Have a good day."

Im tough with kids, especially when their parent are around because quite frankly, the game = money, the more money you spend the less you will have for more important things.

Unless you give your self to the game, you will never be good at it and all you will be doing is burning money.

If everybody had so much money to burn, why do people always complain about Gas, Electricity, and how the governement keeps taking their money.

I say, if your kid is serious about it, do it. Plant the seed and let it sprout.
If your kid isnt serious, dont even try and plant anything, you will just end up with nothing in the end.

Im starting to think this game is really violent now...... yeah a guy had a giant die at my last tourney... he almost threw it at some dude.. it was the size o a softball... had the judge not walked into the room I think that guy would of had amajor headache
One of the lads I duel with lost and in a huff threw his cards on the table, straight into a pool of 7-Up. :tssk: :dope: Twit!

I think the whole foul language we tend to use here must act as a release as I've yet to hear of anyone physically striking someone/damaging their cards because they lost here, and this is even though people will drink (alcohol) at the tournaments. Usually the only fights would be blaggards messing between their duels.

Usually after dueling a kid I'll try give them advice on their deck, help them cut it back down if it's too big etc... Don't see any reason to be mean to them, just help them out and make sure they don't get discouraged. At last year's Last Chance Qualifiers for the Nationals here I won a flight but told the kid to come with me to report the win so we could see if he could have my place instead as I wouldn't be going to the Nationals anyway(was too tired that week for 2 days straight dueling and I'd gotten to take the LV2 exam which was all I'd wanted), went up and asked the guy in charge of logging the winners of the current flights, he said that only the winner could go through so I told him to put down the kid as the winner. The kid was chuffed but I got an earful off the guy taking the winners' names because I wasn't interested in going to the Nationals, and how I couldn't possibly work as hard as him during the week so I couldn't be too tired to go, etc.... Jerk.

I use to run a tourny, and sum parents would be there with their kids. I didn't mind it, cuz the parents didn't get in the way of the duels or caused any problems. Although there was one time, when one kid to ask to see the card and read its effect. The other kid was givin' him sum attitude, and the parent said that his kid has the right to read his opponent's card, and he should change his attitude. It was just the other kid didn't have any patience.

Then I was at a Duelist League, and my brother who is 28 years old and his son plays Yu-Gi-Oh. My brother asked to see sum kids cards for trade, and his mama was like you ain't gonna trade no cards. Then that kid was lookin' at my trade book, and he wanted to trade a card, and I was like yo' mama said you ain't gonna trade no cards, so I would trade you any cards. He was cryin' to his mama, LOL. She just looked at me all sad.

But yea if the parents who are disruptive to the game, or asses like the mama I mentioned, they shouldn't be at any tournies. If they change the first day, then its cool. I think some don't even know whats goin' on. And those parents who spend a lot of money on their kids decks and their kids lose, they wonder why. Us gamers who that most kids want whats on the cartoon, so they buy sum crappy cards and trade crappy cards. Like I traded a Dark Magicain for a BLS-Envoy cuz some kid wanted a yugi deck. I usually put out a offer to kids and if they wanna trade it then its cool, if not its cool anyways.

Its not how much you spend on your deck, its how well built it is. This some parents don't understand. Now I sold cards to kids, who parents who fork out the cash for the cards. But I showed them I know what I'm doin' cuz I helped their kids deck out. Meanin' I switch some cards in their deck with some of their better cards, and made a better deck. So the parents know I ain't gonna take 'em for a ride.

It was cool cuz some kid spend a lot of money on deck from me (this was back when traditional still around), and he was takin' 1st or 2nd place in every tourny he played in.

well i always try to stay away from kids who like to hang with their parents because of that reason. Thats also the reason why i hardly trade with people at regionals

"If your not here to seriously play, you might as well sign the part of this piece of paper were it says drop."

then the parent says, "I dont think he is kidding, son are you serious about the game?"

Kid says, "No not really"

then I say, "then you should save your money for more interesting things"

and thats how I always win against little kids that dont know what their doing.

see its easy, the parent are on my side because I help them get their kids out of the game :D

lol
okay I think that is the funniest thing ever.. I might have to try that one, and honestly Im agree and act the same way when I get talked down t by a parents.. I sit down dont say a word and am a totaly pain in the butt to the kid.. Its everything from, count your side deck, you calling priority, whats your target (when they do just about anything). Or you cant use your Fusion b/c you never declaired it. Then I just sit there and evertime they try bringing something to the field, I either will bottomless it or let them attack to kill their monster... They never get anything through and by the end Im down maybe 2000 points from Pre, snatch, or Brain Control. And Im like yeah good game- sign here, and walk away. I dont put up with annoying parents and I hate taking it out on thier kids but- well I do.

I learned to act that way from my mom.

you know how some mom push you and stuff to succed, well my mom is the opposite, she always tell us "Dont expect to win, we all know you suck" or the funniest one ever, "Im not your mom if you lose."

But its true, though, never go into a battle if you expect to win, if you win then kool, if you lose, then oh well you didnt expect to win anyways. lol

but you know what, have you guys noticed that becuase the trend of little kids and their rents going to events, UDE has to do the Jr. League.

a friend of mine that is really serious into the game just turned 13, he told me the Jr. League is a joke becuase its basically the same little kids you would have seen in regular events but this time all put together in 1 room. If you arnt there to be serious you shouldnt play there at all.

hey goes to show, more sooner than later even little kids will be hating little kids. lol

Oh I have more fun playing the little ones than anything else! Seeing their enthusiasm, the delight in their eyes when they pull off a combo, and beating the old man on occasion just makes me smile and even giggle! I love to encourage them, to help them with their decks, teach them the value of good sportsmanship, to give them a few cards they value, and see them take delight in a game I've grown to enjoy so much.

I think the "problems" come into play when the older "kids" take the game too seriously and place too much of their self worth on how they perform in this game.

So an 8 year old just somehow summoned BEWD on you and you didn't have a response...he knocked you out of the top 8 even though he didn't win another match all day <shrug> I take delight in watching that kid skip away and say, "Mom! Guess WHAT! I just pounded that old guy over there with BEWD for a match win!" Everyone needs a few seconds of glory....deny a little kid his? <shaking head> Not me. That kid just boosted his confidence level and it will inspire him / her to greater things.

Its true, some older players take the game seriously, but come on, were talking about Events, local hobbies, who cares, thouse are play testing grounds.

if you lose there to a kid its kool, their learning and your learning, but at an event, you really arnt there to be practicing but putting all your time and effort into that to good use.

I enjoy playing with some of the younger players at hobby league and stuff, but thats becuase its that "Hobby League" there is no real glory or triumph its just "Hey lets have a little thing here and you know"

thats all that is, but now we put the same thing but with 300+ heads at an event were the goal is to get an invite to nationals or win that Trophy then its completly different.

because there your focus is on trying to get up there. Not practicing.

If a kid comes playing at a hobby leauge and i was to act like a jerk with them, then i know i wouldnt forgive my self. but at an event, dude.. its a whole different game.

its like when you play football, or baseball, or any friendly enviroment, you arnt gonna be all Elite and stuff, but when you do go into a competive enviroment tell me that you dont change the way you think.

we all know it happens. We can all safely agree, a friendly enviroment is were you have the most fun at.

Well, actually, no...it doesn't change the way I think personally. When you consider that I've only participated in 3 regional tournaments and didn't play a seriously competitive deck in any one of them! I can't remember what I played in the first one....but the second one I played a Fusion Gate / RfDD deck, the last one I played an all commons deck :p Why? Because for me it's more fun to pull off a great combo or defeat someone with something unexpected on occasion than it is to win the tournament. I don't expect everyone....as a matter of fact I expect few to understand that mentality, most of you are too young to do so yet.

This is a leisure activity for me. My enjoyment comes from many things in the game, the least of which actually, is winning big tournaments....though I'm told I'm quite capable of it if I were to play a "serious" deck! <shrug> We have a good many players around my area with good national rankings....I remember just giggling winning one of the local tournaments with a deck with 14 tribute monsters in it :D That's the kind of silly stuff I like to pull of no matter what tournament enviroment it is.

yea but thats comming from a person that enjoys playing more jank than anything.

really, if were honest about how we play. we all know there are guys / teams that buy about 15 boxes of the product a week. That is like their life.

while there are thouse other peeps that dont even buy packs, they get free stuff from people that dont like commons and so forth.

the funnything now is that, You used to play a deck with RFTDD and now practically everybody is running it.

now isnt that something mr. trend setter lol.

<soft chuckle> Yeah, I had to laugh about that too. That Fusion Gate / RfDD deck was about a year ago. People keep telling me about this new deck type that just rocks! ....and a cool new artist named Dylan. <smirk>

I totally agree with you krazykidps on this. Hobby Leagues, Duelist Leagues, and events like that you tend not to pay attention to parents. Yea this events are to trade and improve your duelin' skills. But even then parents shouldn't be such asses. Keep it cool, and it'll be cool. Be an ass, and get treated like an ass.

But at Tournies you wanna win and improve your ratings and get a prize. Parents should realize this, and the T.O., Judge(s) should anounce that any1 who disrupts the duels will be asked to leave. I know I would, if problems are keep raisin' up.

I don't mind if parents go to any YGO event, as long as they are cool. Plz don't say what you think you know, or act like an ass with your kidz cards. Cuz I won't even talk to you or your bastard child, LOL. In my town, I'm the best duelist (not braggin') and I help any1 with their decks. If a parent is an ass with me, I ain't gonna help them. Matter of fact, I got a parent to play YGO. Cuz I was so cool with their kid.
