say relinquished has stolen a blue eyes and has 3000 attack (i like using blue eyes in examples)
and ur using the 3000 relinquished to attack the cats ear tribe. what would happen?

does relinquished go all the way down to 200? or would his orrginal attack be considered 0 and cat actualy boosts him to 3200?

The BEWD is an Equipcard witch boosts rel. up 3000 and Cat's Ear Tribe says "the original Attack" will become 200. The Effect from Relinquished overrides the Effect from Cat's Ear Tribe, cause it says the Attack of Relinquished gets the Attackstrenght from the Monster it is equipped with.

normal
Relinquished [0] equipped with BEWD [3000]
fighting Cat's Ears Tribe
Relinquished [200] equipped with BEWD [3000]

It's the only logical solution that seems possible.

"This monster can take on the ATK and DEF of 1 opponent's monster on the field (a face-down monster results in an ATK and DEF of 0). Treat the selected monster as an Equip Spell Card and use it to equip "Relinquished"."

"During the Damage Steps of your opponent's turn, the original ATK of his/her monster(s) that attack this monster becomes 200 points."

I'm no Judge (yet) but I agree: if Cat's Ear Tribe says the original ATK becomes 200, then it doesn't matter if Relinquished has a Blue-Eyes equipped to it: the ATK becomes 200. After the Damage Step, it's 3000 again.

I think this means that Relinq Becomes 3200.

gearfried equiped with fusion sword murasame attacks a cats ear
tribe, both in Attack Position. What happens?

I say that gearfried wins and does 800 pts damage, but a friend says they both
die. "original attack" refers to the 1800 correct?

Answer:

You are correct.

"Cat's Ear Tribe" only changes the base ATK of the attacking monster to 200. Any
other bonuses are applied afterwards.

Original ATK refers to the ATK printed on the card.

So with no other bonuses on the field:

"Cat's Ear Tribe" has 200 ATK. "Gearfriend the Iron Knight" has 1000 ATK. "Cat's
Ear Tribe" is destroyed and its controller loses 800 Life Points.

well you see thats the thing.

Maju Garzet gets turned into a 200 and later into a 0 if he attackes.
a equped monster gets turned into a 200+bonus from equip.

the question really is if the monster boosts relinquished as a equip card. or that it boosts due to relinquisheds effect like gazet.

Maju Garzett
Card Text
The ATK of this card becomes equal to the combined original ATK of the 2 monsters you offered as a Tribute to Tribute Summon this card
ruling: If "Maju Garzett" battles "Cat's Ear Tribe", its original ATK is changed to 200 for the battle, then after the battle its ATK is reset to 0.

Relinquished
Card Text
This monster can take on the ATK and DEF of 1 opponent's monster on the field (a face-down monster results in an ATK and DEF of 0). Treat the selected monster as an Equip Spell Card and use it to equip "Relinquished". You may use this effect only once per turn and can equip "Relinquished" with only 1 monster at a time. When your opponent's monster attacks this monster with an ATK higher than "Relinquished", the equipped monster is destroyed instead of "Relinquished". Any Life Point damage you receive from the attacking monster when "Relinquished" is equipped is also inflicted on your opponent.

Maju Garzett's original ATK is not 0. It's original ATK is the amount it is tributet with.
Relinquished's original ATK IS 0. It's boosted up TO the ATK of the equipped Monster not BY the ATK of the equipped Monster.
Relinquished's effect is NOT an usual boost like "Axe of Dispair" or stuff like this. It just brings the ATK UP TO the ATK of the equipped Monster and DOESN'T add the ATK to Relinquished.

Cards that have an ATK of 0 or ? printed on the card both are treated as "0" for determining the original ATK. In the case of "Maju Garzett" or "Great Maju Garzett" vs. "Cat's Ear Tribe", their ATK would be set to 200 during the Damage Step and assuming they survive are reset back to 0 afterwards. The reason being is that their effect determines their ATK at summoning only, not continuously like in the case of "Chaos Necromancer" or "Gren Maju Da Eiza" (both of whom would have their ATK set to 200 against "Cat's Ear Tribe" and then recalculated after that battle was completed).

As for "Relinquished", for starters here is the updated/errata-ed text for the card:
Relinquished
Select 1 monster on your opponent's side of the field and equip it to this card (this effect can only be used once per turn and you can only equip 1 monster at a time to this card). The ATK and DEF of this card become the same amounts as the monster equipped to this card. If this card is destroyed as a result of battle, the equipped monster is destroyed instead, and any battle damage you received from the battle is also inflicted to your opponent's Life Points.

Now, this is how I would rule it and I'll use your example.

"Relinquished"'s original ATK is 0, so "Cat's Ear Tribe" would make it 200.
Then "Relinquished"'s effect would set its ATK equal to the Equipped monster it has so it would become 3000 if he had "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" attached to it.

So the final verdict would be 3000.

This situation would be similar if a monster battling "Cat's Ear Tribe" was equipped with "Megamorph" because even after "Cat's Ear Tribe" resets the ATK to 200, "Megamorph" then resets it to double/half of the original ATK. It doesn't add/subtract to the value.

Hmmm... I would say that Relinquished gets a boost to his original attack by 200, which would mean he now has "200" attack (without equip card counted), since the Equip Card (monster card turned Spell Card) is not part of his original attack, but instead an Equip Spell Card worth 3000 attack, he would be at 3200 attack.

Same would apply if Injection Fairy Lily attack Cats Ear. The Original Attack would Be 200, with the boost during the Damage Step, making it 3200 attack.

Not the same thing. "Relinquished" specifically says its ATK/DEF "become" the same amounts as the monster equip to it. "Injection Fairy Lily" says to "increase" the ATK by 3000.

That sounds completely right,

since relinquished has no attack strength he's at zero, since Blue Eyes White Dragon is equipped to him he would be at 3,200 just like they say. Just like if I attack with berserk Gorilla and I have an axe on him; my berserk would be at 1000, you would only take 800. But this statement was only redundant compared to what everyone else was saying but. Eventhough we are all right in what we are saying. Still helps when someone doesn't understand to get more than one opinion. Plus I wanted to contribute.

Relinquished doesn't get additional 3000 ATK from the BEWD he's equipped with. It becomes 3000 ATK. So the ATK the Cat's Ear Tribe is hit with is 3000 NOT 3200.

Let's look at what orginal atk value means. Orginal atk is the atk power printed on a card. The atk value printed on Relinquished is 0. Nothing can change that, not even Relinquished's effect. Now, Cat's Ear Tribe makes the orginal atk go to 200 for that damage step. That means Relinquished now has an atk of 200 with out the equiped card. With the Equiped card he becomes a mighty 3200 1 star spellcasters for that turn.

The effect of Relinshed does not change his orginal atk. As there is no way to edit a card's printed atk value in the middle of a duel.

The original atk is just the atk printed on the card. No card can override the original atk value. Its Printed 0 ATK, for everyone to see.

now with this in mind (Original Attack 0) Relinq attacks Cats Ear Tribe, It gets a 200atk boost to add to its 3000 because the 3000 isn't whats effected by Cats Ear. Blue eyes is an Equip Spell Card and Functions as such. I refer you to my eariler post on Cats Ear Tribe vs Equips:

"Cat's Ear Tribe" only changes the base ATK of the attacking monster to 200. Any
other bonuses are applied afterwards.

Original ATK refers to the ATK printed on the card.

So with no other bonuses on the field:

So Relinq with an Orginal Attack of 0 attacks Cats Ear Tribe, it give Relinq an attack of 200, then because of the Blue Eyes that is an Equip Spell card (Which has 3000+ boost tac'ed on) Relinq is 3200

*sigh*

"This monster can take on the ATK and DEF of 1 opponent's monster on the field (a face-down monster results in an ATK and DEF of 0). Any Life Point damage you receive from the attacking monster when "Relinquished" is equipped is also inflicted on your opponent."

That means its ATK and DEF become the ATK and DEF of the equipped monster. There is no increase in ATK and/or DEF by Relinquished's effect. Relinquished's original ATK is 0. By Relinquished's effect, its ATK is NOT increased, it is merely changed to another value. When Relinquished equipped with Blue-Eyes White Dragon attacks Cat's Ear Tribe, its original ATK, which was 0 becomes 200, but Relinquished is a 3000 ATK monsters because its effect makes its ATK become 0. Relinquished's effect does not increase its ATK and DEF by the ATK and DEF of the equipped monster, its ATK and DEF becomes that of the equipped monster.
