Spell 'activation' questions and FET-EN039 Spell Absorption

I know the card isn't out yet, but it will be in about a week's time with all the prerelease tournaments happening across the country. After examing the card a lot, there are some very sick, perfectly legal things possible to do with it, that I'm sure others have even figured out, but I do have some serious questions about its card text, if this indeed is the official English card text, it makes me question some things, and possible brokenness of it. Comments are greatly appreciated by any and all people, judges or not.

Spell Absorption
Spell - Continuous
"Each time a Spell Card is activated, increase the life points of this card's controller by 500 points."

Alright, now, here's the thing that bothers me. "Activated." It's continuous, so, when a new spell card is played, that's obviously activated, so then, wouldn't Spell Absorption itself "activate" by gaining the 500 life from the other card's activation? If so, then wouldn't itself activating cause it to keep gaining 500 life? That, I'm doubtful of, but what might worry me is having two down on the field at once. If they do "activate", then wouldn't they activate each other into an infinite chain of life point gain, simply by having two out? The one triggers the other, which triggers the other, and it bounces back and forth? My logic might be skewed here, but as I said, it's the whole "activation" word that bugs me.

I'm also going by a question that was cleared here for me before while designing my friend's "Exodia the Underdog" deck for fun, by the combination of "Heart of the Underdog", and "Solemn Wishes", both being continuous, and everytime a new normal monster is drawn with HotU, it "activates" and thus Solemn Wishes "activates", giving 500 life for each normal monster drawn. By this logic even, you could replace Solemn Wishes with Spell Absorption and for each normal monster drawn, HotU "activates" and thus triggers Spell Absorption into "activating" and gaining the 500 LP. This /really/ gets me to start wondering about other cards, like "Skilled Dark Magician" or "Royal Magical Library" as well, as they say "activates" on it. In effect, that would mean that if every time you played a Spell card, or everytime a continuous Spell, such as HotU or Spell Absorption was "activated" by their conditions being met, they would get a counter?

I know this is a lot of questions, but ones I feel need brought up, because if what I'm thinking is indeed correct, this card could be amazingly broken without anyone really looking at it closely. The combos are practically limitless in many cases. The one that easily stands out to me is especially first turn, Gearfried + Spell Absorption + Butterfly Dagger - Elma = Infinite Life Points. That's just using logic on the already known combo with Royal Magical Library. Three cards, all playable on the first turn easily, leading to basically the only chance of you losing is to Exodia, Decking Out, Final Countdown, Last Turn, Destiny Board, or drawing with Self-Destruct Button. Am I forgetting any others? Figure out a way to dump a Fire Princess into the graveyard and Premature Burial it, and you've got a first turn kill possibility even. Completely situational, of course, but still.

Perhaps my mind has just been running rampant since seeing this card, but good grief, if everything I said happens to be true, a card most people would probably just laugh at instead becomes a possible powerhouse. I've already got a couple deck designs thought out based around the card, so please, by all means, feel free to prove me wrong. I would almost hate to be right in a case like this, it's downright scary.

Not as awesome as it could be:
Player A: "I lost, so I will begin this duel, ok?"
Player B: "Ok"
Player A: "My turn...Draw Phase"
Player B: "Wait...I win! Look! I have Exodia! ^_^"

I've never seen this though...:D
LOL..you've never done that!

I used to do it on purpose just to see people's reactions!...lol
Not at any REAL tournaments or anything....;)

Can you imagine the luck in this draw???

"Blahblahblahblah"

That's a lot of luck and work!

Would there be an easier way?
Wow, my thread really picked up since I last looked at it, lol!

I've went over many possible ways this could be done on the first turn, there's actually quite a few possibilities. It's still /extremely/ situational though, because of the restrictions on cards.

The only two cards you definitely need in your hand to start out of six are Elma and Spell Absorption. Elma's the worst there, since that's a 1/40 chance, where Spell Absorption is 3/40.

Best choice scenario is having Painful Choice and Premature Burial as two other cards in your hand, again, chances being very slim. Obviously dump the Fire Princesses and two other cards, possibly a Gearfried. Then Premature can be used for a measly -300 loss thanks to Spell Absorption to put Fire Princess on the field.

Gearfried would be the easiest part of the combo to get into your hand, 3 of him in the deck, 2 Reinforcement of the Army, and 3 Warrior Returning Alive to put him in your hand via Painful Choice if you didn't draw him or a Reinforcement. Play him for the normal summon and you're all set.

Depending on what your opponent plays, of course, pulling off this combo within 2-3 turns becomes much easier. Iron Blacksmith Kotetsu can pull Elma or Premature from the deck, if Sangan and/or Witch get unbanned, they can pull Fire Princess, and Ultimate Offering can obviously let you play Gearfried and Fire Princess in the same turn. All of these additional cards make it to where the /only/ card you absolutely must draw normally is a Spell Absorption. It's a fun idea to toy around with anyway, and after Flaming Eternity is fully released, I plan on making a stall/burn deck with this combo in it, and a Gearfried based Equip deck with his beefier counterpart, Maha Vailo, Mataza, and Fire Princess/Spell Absorption thrown in, with some other stuff too obviously. I doubt it would be too tournament worthy, but it would be fun, no doubt. I look forward to seeing the new ban/restricted list ASAP.

as long as spell absorption, along with other cards like soul absorption and harpie's hunting ground, after having been already activated, and having resolved succesfully, remains active on the field it will not, as you put it, "activate", they will "trigger".

The above sentance is correct english so I don't wanna hear any complaints

P.S. @Burn - nice combo :D

Yes, thank you everybody, I know for sure now how it works thanks to everyone here, and the fact that now the rulings for it are up on UDE's FAQ page. I wish they would've posted them sooner though, that way I wouldn'tve had to share the simple infinite life gain with it, Elma, and Gearfried, but I figure people would've found that out on their own anyway easy enough. ;)

I'm afraid that might end up getting abused out the yin-yang though, which if so, they might have to ban Elma altogether, or restrict this to 1, in which case, that would be very annoying.

According to UDE FAQ:

Spell Absorption
1. The effect of "Spell Absorption" is applied when the Spell Card is activated. You cannot chain to this effect. The effect is applied immediately. For example, when activating "Tribute to the Doomed" while "Spell Absorption" is on the field: (1) pay the cost by discarding a card, (2) activate "Tribute to the Doomed", (3) your Life Points increase for "Spell Absorption", (4) check for chaining and resolve "Tribute to the Doomed".

2. If the activation of a Spell Card is negated by "Magic Jammer", etc., then you will not gain Life Points for "Spell Absorption".

I think this is a bad ruling. The Life Points increase should happen when the activated spell resolves, not during its activation. Kinda like "Tower of Babel".

If the above ruling is accurate, then the following scenario will be true:

Assume Player A has an Active "Spell Absorption".
Player A activates "Pot of Greed" (then Player A increases it's LP)
Player B activates "Magic Jammer"

Resolution:
CL2: Negate and destroy "Pot of Greed"
CL1: "Pot of Greed" is negated (then Player A decreases it's LP)

I think this Game Mechanic is fishy.

So if you have a face up Simochi and I have a face up Spell Absorption and I play MST on Simochi do I gain or lose life pts?
Good question actually. Considering both Simochi and Spell Absorption are continuous, and according to the closest rules on each that should apply for this situation...

I
f the opponent activates "Dian Keto the Cure Master", you can chain this card and the opponent will take 1000 points of damage instead of gaining Life Points. If the opponent chains "Mystical Space Typhoon" to your "Bad Reaction to Simochi", they will gain the 1000 Life Points.

Since Simochi is continuous, I believe its effect would "trigger" immediately, and you'd still take 500 damage from activating it, since Spell Absorption's effect was applied immediately. Someone please state otherwise if I'm wrong.

If Simochi was face down, you couldn't chain it to the LP gain from playing MST, but you could always chain it afterwards, just to chain it, if you like making chain links, like I do sometimes. (7 chain links in one turn anyone? 5 face down cards on my side, opponent had 1. Opponent played Heavy Storm (1), I chained Jar of Greed (2), then Jar of Greed (3), then Jar of Greed (4), then Emergency provisions (5), then opponent countered with Spell Shield Type 8 [discarding serpent, good play considering it was gonna be toast anyway] (6), and I countered with Seven Tools of the Bandit (7). Talk about fun, and boy did that annoy him immensely... he lost 3 cards, and I lost none, gaining LP and 3 cards.)

Is there any reason you could not just say you are going to perform the spell absorption/gearfried/elma loop an infinite amount of times, giving you infinite life points?
Because infinity is not a number and you must state how many times you are going to repeat the loop.

And sadly, we can all can any ideas of doing this combo now in Advanced format, the Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh website has the new banned list on it, and Butterfly Dagger - Elma is on it.

Ah well, Infinite Life combo, we never knew ye, and I salute you. Perhaps in another 6 months we can actually try it out.

Well, the JPN List is active March 1, however there is no date for the NA List to be changed. It could be another month.

So you will at the very least get to try it out. Sadly, not in Tournament play since FET does not become legally playable until April 1.

You would be very unlucky if your opponent would activate 'Reversal Quiz' and your lifepoints would get exchanged. In the next 2 turn your opponent then draws 'Agent of Force - Mars' and 'Sanctuary in the Sky'. His monster would then be nearly indestructable.

You mean they are making it the 1st of the Month after Walmart "accidently" releases them earlier than the Pre-Release?? lol
