"unaffected by any Spell Cards"

Emperor of Games
ok this situation came up in a recent duel between myself and a friend... he controlled Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6 and i ....nothing
i was getting smacked down by horus and was down to 100 lp

i drew for my turn and this is where it got interesting...

i summoned Masked Dragon in attack mode
and played Creature Swap......

am i correct in saying that even though Horus is UNAFFECTED by any spell cards things like Creature Swap still do work....

my Reas.oning behind this is that Creature Swap targets the player.... and does nothing to the creature...

Horus Level 6 effect stops it from being affected by Spells, but that doesn't stop it being used as a cost to pay for a spell card. A perfect example is Level Up which requires a cost of tributing a Level monster to special summon the monster that is next up on the card. So you can use it with cards like Share the Pain as that is only a cost.

so doesnt the same thing apply???..... read the actual text on Creature Swap

Both players select 1 monster from their respective sides of the field and switch control of those monsters with each other. The selected monsters cannot change their battle positions this turn.

This is one of those examples that Kevin Tewart was talking about when he stated that we shouldn't get too caught up in the exact terminology used in certain card texts.

While I don't belive that we should completely ignore the phrasing on a good many cards, this is an example of where the phrasing has no bearing on how the card functions.

For example, Toll sayas that "Each player must pay 500 Life Points to declare an attack." However, Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6 can attack without its controler having to pay. A lot of times "a player(s)" ability to do someting with a mosnter often has more to do with the monster then it does for the controler of the monster.

OMG I KNEW IT!!!

stupid guy gave the wrong ruling! i knew that it pulled with out effect becuase they must have 1 eligible monster to send over.

guy Creature Swaped 2 of my monsters and kept selecting horus and kept insiting and the stupid judge belived him. GRRR

since players arnt judges i couldnt say anything but appeal but they never brought the head judge.

i so hate that.

wait. You asked for an appeal from the head judge and they never came over to grant you that appeal? Are you certain that the original judge correctly heard your request? Im just amazed, because that is the first time Ive heard of that happening at an event large enough to host a Head judge and subordinate judges.

Blast with Chain (and Megamorph) would not work because they are Equip Spell Cards.

Rare Metalmorph would work (with DNA Surgery)
Since when is Blast with Chain a considered a Spell Card???

[Re: Gearfried the Swordmaster] The effect of "Gearfried the Swordmaster" will activate even if a Trap Card is equipped to him (such as "Metalmorph" or "Blast with Chain").

Guess you havent heard the lastest terminology. Equip Trap Cards, or plain old Equip Cards that aren't treated as Equip Spell Cards
